Rangers could afford Prince and Yu

06:36 AM ET 01.14 | Sniffing a major bargain, the Rangers met with free-agent slugging first baseman Prince Fielder on Friday. Seattle, Washington, the Chicago Cubs and the Rangers are the most interested parties. None appears willing to bite on Boras' proposal for an eight- to 10-year deal. The alternative could be a shared-risk contract that would allow Fielder to save face. It would be announced as a long-term arrangement, but both Fielder and the club would be able to escape early in the deal. That would allow Fielder, 27, to try free agency again while still in his prime and also relieve the club of a long-term obligation. Fielder would command an annual salary of $20 million in the first few years of the deal. It would be a tight fit, but the Rangers could take on that salary and also sign Japanese righthander Yu Darvish to a contract that would pay about $10 million annually.

It is getting old but not much else going on. Though the Yankees trading Montero was a surprise to me.

Shared-risk contract? Since when does any Boras client share any risk? Make no mistake, who ever signs him will be the only party at risk. A long term deal is not really a long term deal as long as either party can bail at any time. Instead, it sounds like your garden variety marriage

How's this Mariners sign both Fielder & Oswalt, they will then have to strong hitters (under 30 years old) locked in for at least 5 Years, they add Oswalt & maybe Colon and take there chances on 2 veteran pitchers!! Might put them in the mix!!

Fielder needs to lose about 30 pounds and get rid of that tumor on his shoulder called Scott Boras, and he'll get more offers. But never for 8-10 years.

When posting something about a certain agent I won't mention can you just eliminate his name and put so and so's Bonehead agent? It would make for much better reading.

Sure they can afford both Fielder and Darvish now, but in the next couple years they need to address contracts for Hamilton, Kinsler, Cruz, Napoli and Andrus. Not to mention their young pitchers. They don't need Prince, IMO the Blue Jays are a better fit for the fat man.

Another story manufactured by Borass in an attempt to keep his client in the news.

Napoli

the rangers aren't too happy with napoli, all because napoli would like a long term , at 100 millios/5 years deal, after all the team its saying that napoli its more like a utility player type, could it be this the reason why the rangers refuse to sign napoli to a such long term deal???
