Rangers eyeing trade deadline targets

08:36 AM ET 01.15 | Of course the Rangers are monitoring the situation in Nashville as it applies to defensemen Ryan Suter and Shea Weber (as is every team in the Stanley Cup mix) and yes, the Coyotes??? Shane Doan would be the perfect top-six fit coming up to the Feb. 27 trade deadline if a cost-effective deal could be made. In the meantime, don???t be the slightest bit surprised if the Rangers, who have gotten next to nothing in terms of offense from their bottom two lines (not to mention the power play), bring back veteran winger Vinny Prospal as a rental from Columbus if the price is reasonable.

Ah yes, the trading deadline. Have gun, will travel. I don't see Weber staying in Nashville although I have no idea where he'll end up and while Prospal would probably beg to leave Columbus, I'd try to land Doan first.

Doesn't Doan's wife have a no-trade clause?
And there's enough guys named Vinny in NY already.
Canuck eh?

Yeah, Vinny Prospal should put them over the top.

Don't do it Rangers. Prospal is not gonna add anything and, you don't need anything right now.

That's why he didn't want the team to move back to Winnipeg...he would have been heading north on his own! Wonder if she knows how to parlez francais???

if you have a team positioned in the top and you look like you can keep the team intact for a few years to come, why would you get rid of pieces just to go after a temporary player? I have an easier time seeing 3-5th ranked team on the decline trying to pull the trigger on a deal for a player like Weber. Every1 knows that Weber won't come cheap.

Weber becomes more affordable if you just rent him for a month and a half.

If they want Prospal for a used bag of pucks do it. They are obviously going to try and get Hagelin but that's a nogo. Prospal won't cost much.

Now Weber and Suter are going to cost something. They'll probably dangle AA and a high pick or two but they can't give up much in forwards. Wolski is unreliable and Dubinsky's injury sets them back in the forward department.

Doan would be a great acquisition for any team! I didn't know he was on the trading block.

I could see him there. He'll need to go to a team with an amazing goalie to make his stats continue to look as good. I talk about this all the time.....chemistry! You can't buy it, or trade for it. It has to be there, or worked on till it is there. Rinne was a good sigining IMHO.
Rinne has been overlooked quite a bit, even though he has been one of the most consistent and effective goalies in the league since he started.
Who would the Rangers go after? Who do they want?
