08:17 AM ET 01.18 | Gregg Popovich changed, at least for a day, his tune. For the better part of a month, [Popovich's] instincts have been to comfort. As his young team, playing without its best player, continued to falter on the road, he spared the rod in favor of an encouraging pat on the backside. Tuesday night at American Airlines Arena, in the moments after the Miami Heat turned on an all-out second-half blitz to send the Spurs tumbling to a 120-98 defeat, Popovich made one thing evident to his players. There would be no more Mr. Nice Pop. "I thought in the second half they got real physical, and I thought we folded," Popovich said. "We should be embarrassed by that, playing that soft."

Is this something he just discovered? The Spurs have been soft for years, it should not be a surprise. The real problem with the Spurs is the same problem with the Celtics, they have over extended their players. The magic is gone from the Spurs and Celtics and the only fix is a trade for younger players and a rebuild effort. Sorry, but your not going to somehow reinvigorate Duncan, his dominance is over, he's just a good player who have enough experience to get you a soft 20 these days. This is not a knock on Duncan but just the reality of his talents at this moment. Duncan's value has dropped and the Spurs have held on to him, rightfully so, to long.

Its not soft play but more uninspired play, the wind has left the sail, time to rebuild.

nope.... will not, ever recognize him. How long has me-bron been in the league now? Just a few more years of not winning the championship for him is all I care about. again, 2 more seasons of not winning will make me warm. And then he'll get traded. I just hope the Bulls take care of the Heat, that's all that matters......

You hope the Bulls take care of the Heat because the Celtics couldn't last year and DEFINITELY can't this year??

Great morale booster...

What'd you expect him to say? "Well done, troops!"? It's Pop's style, and it has worked well enough to win him several rings.

Yeah the Spurs ought to be embarrassed by the second half performance, I had a feeling the Heat were waiting to do that though. On the plus side Jefferson turned in a pretty impressive night.
