08:04 AM ET 01.20 | Stephen Ross, along with GM Jeff Ireland, reportedly met for several hours with Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy Thursday in New York -- a day after interviewing Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin and Dolphins interim coach Todd Bowles. McCoy entered Thursday with the belief that he was the front-runner, to the point that he removed his name from consideration for the Oakland Raiders head coaching job, according to a source. ... [There] were indications Thursday that it remained a tight race between the two offensive coordinators, with Bowles a fallback option if Ross cannot decide between Philbin and McCoy. The Dolphins were impressed by McCoy, and he reportedly has the support of Ireland.

A fallback, eh? And where does a fallback line up in the backfield? Is he primarily a blocker, runner or receiver?

I would hope that one of my home town boys would stay miles and miles away from the mess that is known as the Dolphins. That team projects to be irrelevant for years to come.

So wait let me get this straight.... If Ross can't decide between his top two options then he will go with the third option? Does that make sense to anyone? Then again it's the Dolphins, probably makes sense to them (about as much sense as fully believing Reggie Bush is a full time back).

Saban in 2005 was replaced by Cam Cameron.
I think the dolphins have too many bad memories to go the college coach route again.

the 'fins are a mess, and not even a hot mess. They try to hire a coach last year when they still had a coach and now with no coach they can't find someone. Fisher would have been the best choice to deal with the constant, er, ongoing rebuilding project, but having the GM in the way stopped that plan cold.
How about the 'fins dump Ireland, because the personnel decisions were his-- and really crappy ones at that-- and get a big name coach with autonomy to make all the personnel decisions necessary to turn this team around.

I don't understand why he isn't on these lists either...
Someone is going to get a hell of a coach when they hire him.

Why the Broncos offensive coordinator? Their offense was suspect.

Nincompoop Huizenga was the death of the franchise with one idiot decision after another (Johnson, Wannestead, Saban, Cameron, Bill "the hasbeen" Parcells, Ireland). I sorta feel sorry for Ross as he was a virgin who got seriously conned.
Best thing he could do is nuke Ireland before he screws anything else up, hire a real football man to run the franchise and let him hire who he wants. They have a decent nucleus and someone who actually understands the modern game with an eye for talent could make them relevant in a couple of years

They should interview Carmichael and it should come down to he and Philbin, not McCoy. Dump Ireland and get Shula involved!

Fallback coach is merely a polite way of saying second tier coach.
