Lakers' move suggest stingy times ahead

08:14 AM ET 01.20 | Against Los Angeles in a Thursday night showdown of sorts, the Heat wore black. If things don't change, Lakers fans might have to start wearing it too. ... This roster needs help -- Darius Morris played 18 minutes? Really? -- and for the first time in recent memory, folks are questioning the Buss family's commitment to providing that help at the cost of increased payroll. The Lakers currently have a $9-million trade exception they acquired when they dealt Odom to the Dallas Mavericks. They said the deal wasn't about money. Oh yeah? Then they should prove it by acquiring someone whose salary fits into that exception, with candidates including the likes of Memphis' O.J. Mayo and Minnesota's Michael Beasley.

Mayo or Beasley isnt what the Lakers need. The Lakers need a point guard that can pass the ball around and get EVERYONE involved....Not two other sf/pf type of players that are scorers....

Of course its about money, why would the games be played? The Lakers have no intentions of upgrading the team, the team will go as far as it go this season into the post season and then do some cosmetics after that. Maybe the intent of the Lakers are to entice D-Will from the Nets and hold on to Bynum somehow trading Gasol for a major piece.

That whole episode of the Chris Paul move that the league killed has the Lakers becoming very calculating with their future moves. The Lakers are exploring moves that can be made that the league can not stall or cancel.

The Kobe era is winding down under the owner's son and he will make the tough decision of releasing Kobe if Kobe goes into one of those rants as he did a few years ago. But for the mean time the Lakers are playing second fiddle with the moves it can make. I believe the current thinking around the Lakers organization is that Kobe is stiffling progress of some of the younger guys, particularly Bynum. The thought maybe that the Lakers need to take on a new identity other than that of Kobe. When Phil retired it signled the end of an era and beginning of another era under new management, don't be surprise to see other moves such as the Odom move.

QUOTE(#15):

Instead of just attacking me, your MO, refute it with facts! The Lakers and Celtics aren't likely to be winning any titles in the foreseeable future and the small and mid market teams are not going to be bent over to give their talent to them. The league is changing to the NFL model and that's a good thing. Give Dan Gilbert much of the credit for it too.

Well considering in all the players you named:

Fisher was drafted by the Lakers( damn them for stealing him from Little Rock Arkansas)

The Celtics "stole" Garnett by giving up and 20/10 player and 4 other players (gomes, Ratliff, Green, and Telfair) asnd TWO unprotected first round picks....

Lakers "stole" Odom in a trade from Miami for freaking SHAQ!!!

Celtics got Allen for Jeff Green, Delonte West, Wally, and a pick.....

So how did these two "steal" anything....Plus this is all over almost a 15 year span....They cant help that they are a better ran franchise than you pathetic Cavs....

They got Shaq in free agency when anyone could have signed his services.....
