'Of course' Detroit would consider Prince, but ...

08:17 AM ET 01.20 | The loss of Victor Martinez opens a gaping hole in the Tigers' lineup, one not likely to be filled by free-agent first baseman Prince Fielder. Martinez hit .330 and drove in 103 runs for the Tigers last year. The designated hitter tore his ACL during off-season workouts. "Of course we'd consider Prince Fielder," Detroit Tigers General Manager Dave Dombrowksi said Thursday afternoon at a stop on the team's Winter Caravan. "But realistically, it's probably not a good fit," he said. Dombrowski said he didn't think Scott Boras, Fielder's agent, would agree to a one-year deal, and that's a problem for the Tigers. "We anticipate Victor Martinez coming back in 2013 and playing at the level he was at last season," he said.

What a dumb story.

Agreed. Also being that Miguel Cabrera plays 1B and he is as good a hitter as Burger Boy Fielder.

The floor has really fallen out from beneath Big Prince. His only chance to get monster-money (from a team that matters) was Texas.. and Prince got -Yu-d. Now, the only team left with enough coin is the perennial losers Washington. Good luck there Prince.

I am all for getting the Prince to come on over to Chi-Town North Side; 5 years 120 million with $70 million the first three years(21,23,26 million per year respectively) and an opt out for both sides after that. His agent would sign off on that deal in a heartbeat ... unless he really wants his client to suffer in baseball purgatory(Washington) ;)

Didn't Milwaukee offer him a ton of money and he said no 2 years ago?

I ask this very respectfully! If Washington is a purgatory, what does that mek the North side of Chicago?

Yes they did. But Fielder wants a 8+ years along with a huge annual salary. That's why he's still out there. If he was willing to take 5 years at $30MM per, he'd be signed by now.

Bad choice. 8 years? Wow! He won't get what he wants, and what he gets will probably be from a bad team. With him the Brewers had a team that would have been good for a long time.

As if Boras cares about his client's personal desires other than money.......

His ego is fully involved. He's convinvced he deserves the same contract as Pujols. It's not going to happen. I think someone will give him 6 years, but that's probably it. And lets face it, at 6 years the contract will be worth somewhere around $180MM. That's freakin' lottery ticket!!! How much more do you need?

Boras cares about one thing and one thing only - his commissions.

So, you got any ideas on what the Rays are going to do about 1B? I have no clue. They are sitting on a lot of pitching, but I just don't see anyone out there that would be a good fit that might be available. Same for catcher - if you are conceeding that you are going to live with Brignac and Rodriguez' lousy bats at short, then you need something from the catchers. You can't have two black holes in the line up like they did last year.

Rays will probably do what they do at this point in the season, wait, wait until prices come down, wait until they can get a role player that is a little less than they could have gotten had they paid alot more.

As I recall the Brewers didn't offer as much as is being stated and why would a player back load a contract and give the club the opt out...that should not happen, ever.
