Nowitzki regrets playing in Euros

08:43 AM ET 01.22 | The crux of Dirk Nowitzki's four-game sabbatical is that he never gave himself enough time to recover from the championship season and his participation with Germany in the European Championships in August. That ate into the time he normally takes away from basketball. "It gives me time to do some of the stuff I couldn't do because my knee was bothering me the last couple weeks," he said. "I couldn't lift or run because my knee was swelling most of the time. So this week, my knee feels better. This actually gives me some time to get back where I should be. "Playing in the Euros, looking back now, was obviously not the right decision, but it was a decision I made for my country," he said. "But it definitely didn't help me get ready for the season."

... but they had the lockout to extend the off-season by a couple months. If Dirk still wasn't ready for the season with that extra time, then it's all on him and he can't use the Euros as an excuse. He got fat and lazy off the championship.

Did the German team win the championship? If they did, then its worth it.

Speaking of the Olympics did anyone see Marc Stins predictions on who will be on team USA? He said nine players are a lock. Paul, Rose,Williams at point. Kobe and Wade at SG. Durrant, James, Anthony at SF. And Howard.

He got neither fat nor lazy....he had the same knee injury since last January and played through it and won a ring....then instead of resting and rehabbing the knee he played in the worlds...them after that he couldn't have contact with the team bc of the lockout to get treatment and rehab on it....

That's what ruined Yao's career. Seems like these guys would learn by now. You need to rest.

No what ruined Yao's career was the bones in his feet couldn't carry his 300+ lb body up and down a court....

QUOTE(#18):

Not through a full NBA season then also playing for China in the off-season.In other words if he had only played in the NBA it would have been a different story.

How do you know....He didnt play every single off season in China....He had stress fractures and they would never heal properly bc he was so big and so much weight was but on his feet....
