09:53 AM ET 01.22 | The Indians are preparing for Fausto Carmona/Roberto Heredia to not be in training camp ... and beyond. They intend to keep him under contract -- it's guaranteed for this season at $7 million. They also know that his visa and identity mess is probably not going to be resolved soon.

Let this be a lesson to you, Dominican prospects. Go ahead and lie about your age - we're used to that - but you still have to use your real name.

Why keep him under contract if you know that he won't be permitted back into the states soon?? They can void the contract because he signed it under an alias and lied about his age, which is fraud.
Fausto hasn't put together a great season since 07', not even a good season. He showed up to camp way out of shape last year and it was obvious to everyone. They need to cut ties with him and put their $ and resources to another player(s).
IMO, he did the organization a favor and now they have the cash to put towards a first baseman.

Well, he hasn't been that good anyway. Derek Lowe will fill the void, and the team can use the money on a hitter.

Fausto Carmona is not Fausto Carmona, and has gone from 28 to 31.

Only the Indians would keep him under contract. I mean, why not waste money, he had a good season five years ago...he might have another one a few years from now. Idiots they are...they have jobs because they work for the worst ownership in baseball. I mean just think of all the garbage heap reclamation projects they could sign to minor league contracts if they had that $7 mil back.

He had an amazing season five years ago. He had a good season in 2010.

I posted this on Friday's Carmona thread and, because he has been one of my more appreciated players, I feel it's appropriate to repost:
Granted, he's had a very inconsistent career to date -- which in all honesty has been more down than up -- but up to this point, I've really like Carmona for two reasons.
First, his performance in Game 2 of the 2007 ALDS, the infamous "bug game." If you ask me, that was the best single-game pitching performance of the entire 2007. Not only did he hold a stacked Yankees' lineup to only one run over nine innings, but he also effectively pitched through the midges while Joba wet himself. That was a great game.
Secondly, in 2009, he beat Gary Sheffield like Nolan Ryan beat Robin Ventura. He put him in a headlock and fed him some knuckle sandwiches. Good times.
Anyhow, I hope his transgressions stop at identity fraud in an effort to play major league baseball and don't include any more nefarious crimes.
Hang in there, Fausto, or Roberto, or Juan, or Umberto or whatever. Thanks for some great memories.

And in closing, I'd just like to say: cram it, buckeyeblitz.

Because they don't have to pay him until he reports to camp. If he is able to come back this year he will be able to take over for an injured or poor performing starter for a decent price.

True but unfortunately Carmona is a tale of two pitchers. 1 who has pitched well in the post season a few years ago and the other who hasn't had a winning record since then.
I think the Tribe will part ways with him if they can't redo his contract for a far lesser value, either way win-win!

carmona will always be carmona to anybody in the sports, regardless if he was black or white the pitcher will remain being called carmona, if he would had to start from the bottom again, the end would be more closer than far away, hope that every human, every person learn from this dissappointed experience from carmona from nunez, that its better be yourself than anybody else!!
