Anthony says he could be Knicks' problem

08:05 AM ET 01.23 | Looking for a scapegoat in Manhattan? Maybe, just maybe, Carmelo Anthony is shooting too much. That was one of the issues Anthony raised during his impromptu confessional with reporters Saturday night after the Knicks lost their sixth straight game. Maybe, Anthony said, the blame for the Knicks' terrible start should fall on his shoulders. Maybe he needs to defer more to Amar'e Stoudemire and take a few games off to rest his aching body. ... Eleven months after the celebrated trade with the Nuggets, he and Stoudemire are struggling to develop any chemistry. And Anthony, aware of the criticism around him, acknowledged that he could be the problem -- maybe. "I think we as a team need to do a better job getting Amar'e the ball."

QUOTE(#2):

Keep hoisting up 30 shots a game to score 25 Carmelo. Shooting 41% is good. Prepping for your post NBA career, bricklayer.

Yes Melo is the problem and unfortunately it is too late for him in his career learn team ball. A healthy Baron will not solve the problem either. We need an elite point guard so let's cut the chase and ship Melo to the Nets for D-Will. Melo is an offensive star but he is not a championship player because he does not know and can't learn team ball.

He doesn't look to help STAT at all. It almost looks as if he's playing against his own team mates. Knicks are ugly right now and it's all because of Melo. If anyone watched the game against Denver you realize ball movement and team play is better with him on the bench. I'm sick of his selfish antics. Let's put him on the trading block right now! Damn you Melo!!! Go back to Denver...

All jokes to the side but what in the h ell is happening with the Knicks? I didn't think they would be the best team out east but I thought they would at least be top 3. The defense and poor choice of shots are really hurting them. Anthony needs to not shoot so much and share the ball. This is going to be interesting if they don't make the playoffs.

First Mike Antoni, now Melo. Who's next Amare?? Don't blame the players, blame the organization for making the trade and trading up a whole team to get one player.

They played pretty good before Melo got there but they weren't going anywhere prior to that trade. Let's be real withourselves knicks fans. Whats funny is Melo is averaging a career high in assist. When Amare gets the ball what does he do with it? shoot jumpshots. He doesn't post up. He has plenty of opportunities during the game and he doesn't do anything effective. I agree Melo can shoot too much. His FG% is a career low. We defiinitely need a real pg but I think the problem is more d'antoni than anything

January 23, 2012  08:59 AM ET

D'Antoni is not a good coach. A real coach is supposed to put in a system where each player has to play his part to make the team successful. By that I mean he has to run plays that gets the ball to the right players in the right spot. In other words the players need to know where the shots will be coming from and what each player has to do to get that shot.

That makes the players accountable to each other. But D'Antoni is not smart enough to teach a disciplined offense. So the shots comes at random. Players are always looking for theirs jacking up shots like they wanna get drunk.

Nonetheless with the free flow system players need to play for each other and that's not in Melo's DNA. Did you hear the fans beg him to pass the ball?

Honestly I think if we get a point guard that handles and distributes the ball the offense will look coherent sometimes but that should not be confused championship play. To win a championship all the players need to play team ball consistently. That's what Melo lacks and that's why he is and will be a problem on a team with championship aspirations. That's why he needs to be traded. It is for the same reason that Phoenix didn't win a championship.

When a coach doesn't install a system where there's clear defined roles for each player on offense and defense, you have mayhem on both sides of the court. That's why D'Antoni needs to be fired.

What Dolan needs to do is trade Melo to the Nets for D-Will and hire Phil Jackson to replace D'Antoni!

The shortened offseason also hurt the chemistry of this team. Melo came in half way thru last season. Chandler is new, Bibby is new, Shumpert is new and a rookie, same with harrelson. So you have to be realistic with that as well.

And ps to all the eventual haters......Please remember that we fans don't own the teamwe can't fire mike, trade melo, etc.......Make your point, hate away, then MOVE ON

But if its true its not hating, hating is Derrick Rose is not a good player or Dwight Howard is not the best center in the nba. Just saying lol

Amare doesn't have anybody to play pick n roll like he did with Nash. Amare now has to create his own shot. Amare can be a great player with the right team mates.

Didn't you predict the Knicks to win it this year? Come on man, don't give up faith just because they are losing. lol

QUOTE(#7):

The problem starts from the coach. There is no working chemistry betwen the 2 stars after almost a year because the coach refuses to acknowledge that his 'system' doesn't fit the players.yes, melo is shooting too much.......BUT........The problem is that everyone else is chucking up too many 3sSo when everyrhing is so screwed up, you need to look to the coachits time to fire mike, let woodson be the interim coach, implement ANY kind of system other than the current one and lets see if the players wake up and get serious

I agree with about 90% of this comment except the part about Mike Woodsen... Reason being is his offense in Atlanta was HORRIBLE!!! No ball movement whatsoever and a ton of iso's and jump shots- wait, isn't that what the Knicks do now?? Melo can only do so much, the D'Antoni system thrives off the PG play, which quite frankly the Knicks just don't have. Kinda weird that they signed Bibby, but he doesn't play?
