State of Husker hoops should alarm Osborne

08:19 AM ET 01.23 | There is, of course, no great shame in losing to Ohio State, though the manner in which it happened over the weekend is hard for some to swallow. Put yourself in Tom Osborne's shoes as Nebraska athletic director. Wouldn't you be extremely concerned about the Nebraska men's basketball team's loss Saturday night? Yes, it's easy to overreact. Osborne no doubt understands the matchup was inherently troublesome for Nebraska. Sixth-ranked Ohio State is an exceptionally gifted defensive team -- well-coached, athletic and intense -- and NU is offensively challenged, to put it nicely. ... [The] disparity in talent was alarming, as was Nebraska's ineptitude on offense in a 79-45 loss before a season-high 11,439 spectators.

Husker hoops? Who cares

January 23, 2012  09:42 AM ET

Why is this a big deal? COC had been getting drilled for years by good teams. It's who they are.

January 23, 2012  09:48 AM ET

You think Osborne cares about COC's hoops?

Nope.

That's how it was at Tennessee when Doug Dickey was AD. Sure, he accidentally hired one decent basketball coach (Jerry Green) but he then decided he would fire him because too many NCAA tournament appearances were taking away from the fans' focus on Vol FB.
(One other thing, VFH-- am I the only one who is thinking that Derek Dooley is like a FB coaching counterpart to Buzz Peterson?)

I am weary of the power-drinking-the-spiked-koolade-until-you-puke-out-your-fondness-for-you r-new-coach. The Big Orange version is depressing as well. I don't want to think of Dooley as a Buzz Peterson equivalent. I want Double-D to assemble and hold on to an effective staff who will propel the Vols back into SEC contention. I want him to turn out to be a good HC for whom to work and play.

I don't want to learn that he's a Tucks sabotaged with white pepper vinegar, cannot keep a staff, perpetual program interuptus, recruits falling short of potential, multi-year place holder. I've had enough daytime drama in K-town. I want a stable, ass-kickin' CFB program at my alma mater.

True.

However, I think ole' Cuonzo Martin is going to be the diamond in the rough Hamilton was trying to find with Dooley.

it is not a requirement as a Nebraskan to have attended UNL to be a Husker...I'm a Loper (UNK-Nebraska Kearney formerly Kearney State College formerly Nebraska Normal) and I reserve the right to cheer for the Jayhawks you cranky bastage ;)

Colonel is only not wanting the #1 rating jinx. He only wants to be #1 at the end of the season and tournament. LOL ;)

I'm for it, as well, TM. I'd love it if Dooley was the guy for the job.
The Kentucky game last season instilled me with a multitude of doubts, though.
