08:01 AM ET 01.24 | Prior to walking into goat status, Kyle Williams had taken a big hit from Giants safety Tyler Sash. So, what's the big deal? After the game, Giants wide receiver Thomas told the Newark Star-Ledger that New York targeted Williams due to his history of concussions and he pointed to Sash's hit on Williams as proof their game plan worked. ... [A New York magazine] story on New York's targeting of Williams also includes this quote from Jacquian Williams, who forced Kyle Williams' fumble in overtime. "... The thing is, we knew he had four concussions, so that was our biggest thing, was to take him outta the game," Jacquian Williams said.

The kid (K. Williams) is getting death threats.

Stupid fans... (that is not an indictment of Rick, narrator, Cliff, etc...)

Really don't need to publicize they targeted him, I know teams do, but don't need to confirm it.

January 24, 2012  09:12 AM ET

If it's in the game, it's in the game.

January 24, 2012  09:12 AM ET

If you put an injured or injury-prone player on the field, the other team will zero in on that. As long as the hit that puts him out is a legal one this isn't a story.

Catchy. That would make a cool product slogan. Maybe for a video game or something.

Being reiterated by: San Francisco Chronicle

I don't think he should have confirmed they targeted him, keep that in the locker room, no good will can come from that admission, only negative feelings for that team. I know it happens with all teams, but personally, I don't need to hear it confirmed.

So, they admit going after a guy who's had 4 concussions already? It sounds like they think turning the guy into a vegetable is a small price to pay for victory.

On the other hand, if he's had 4 concussions, why are the Niners using him in punt returns where high-speed impacts are common? Yeah, I know Ginn Junior was out, but why not have someone else be your backup punt returner?

January 24, 2012  09:32 AM ET

If the kid was still feeling the effects of concussions, or the hit during the game, then this is on the 49ers for putting him on the field, not the Giants.

January 24, 2012  09:34 AM ET

Just more proof that player safety is an overriding goal in the NFL.

"I'm used to the years of criticism and threats on my life from time to time, but when you year about threats to your sons life while your watching TV and it certainly makes you question our culture of sports as it stands"..
