08:03 AM ET 01.24 | Did Billy Cundiff have help in missing the 32-yard field goal that helped send New England back to the Super Bowl? [On the sidelines, the] best way to follow down and distance, and to watch the plays, is on the scoreboard, which is how Cundiff coordinates his pre-kick routine. On Sunday, during what would be the Ravens' final set of downs, Cundiff completed his first-down prep and checked the scoreboard: second down. He ran through his routine and looked up at the scoreboard again: third down. Then, suddenly, chaos on the sidelines. ... The Ravens, of course, could have made all this confusion moot by calling a timeout. Instead, coach John Harbaugh decided to let Cundiff run on the field and kick.

Some teams don't want to freeze their own kicker. Guess it didn't matter.

Bottom line - that's why you save that final timeout. He had it and he didn't use it. It's not the first time that bad game management has cost a team a big game.

If they'd called time out I'm sure we would have run the snowplow out for him.

I think he was too busy watching the blonde in the third row, looked up, saw the Gillette sign, realize he needed a shave, ran to get his gym bag, noticed he didn't have a razor, looked up at the scoreboard, knew he had a down or two, looked back, saw the blonde making eyes at the scoreboard operator, saw the scoreboard operator wink at the blonde, then at Cundiff, downs quickly change on the scoreboard, Cundiff panics, looks back toward the blonde, the blonde winks at Billy, opens up her blouse, flashes a Pats tatto on her chest, and, well, the rest is HisStory.

No excuse for dropping the ball, no excuse for missing the kick and no excuse for not calling a TO before the kick.
