08:01 AM ET 01.25 | Peyton Manning, in his own words, "never thought 'Sodapop Curtis' would announce my retirement," and, in a wide-ranging interview, had a great deal to say. The question was posed: Given all the changes, the fact the Colts appear to be in a rebuilding mode, does Manning even want to come back to Indianapolis? "I don't want to get into some kind of fan campaign with the owner, but I think it's well documented that I want to play in the same place my whole career," Manning said. ... "But I understand how it works." ... "I'm not into saying goodbye. All I know is I'm still under contract to the Colts. I'm still the quarterback of the Colts. That's why I'm in the building every day trying to get healthy."

It's ovah buddy.... It's ovah.

So, can we end the speculation? Well, probably not.

That $24M might have something to do with it too

He might renegotiate that. I think he already has enough to live comfortably on, and he can go a lot of different ways post-career.

To Be or Not To Be, That My Friend is Da Question? No Luck!

Peyton has spoken, now onto next topic..... I wonder what Fisher is up to?

"Soadapop Curtis". LMAO.

January 25, 2012  08:35 AM ET

He still is not recovered enough yet to throw to real receivers and move around. His muscles have atrophied since he can nor fully work out. It will take at least a year for him to get back into shape again prior to playing, or he will risk another major injury. I just don't see any upside with him other than being a mentor to Luck for next year. Not to say he can't rehab his way back for 2013.

January 25, 2012  09:03 AM ET

Releasing him, taking the hit this year, and moving on is the only viable option for the Colts.
Timing says it will happen that way.

January 25, 2012  09:11 AM ET

When its going like this......only bad outcomes await.

January 25, 2012  09:13 AM ET

Question for you. If Eli wins another Super Bowl Ring on the 5th, we he be considered a better QB than Peyton???

Drew Carey needs to replaced on the PIR.

When you start using acronyms for the Price Is Right, it's time to get off the couch, Brother.

It's over in Indy, he just wants the payday, and who can fault him for that ... he needs a new neck because of football, so pay the man Mr. Jim Irsay, just pay him.

January 25, 2012  09:27 AM ET

Manning is finished... and obviously delusional.

Hang them up Peyton... you aren't anybody's QB at this point

If al else fails, he still has Papa John's...

January 25, 2012  09:40 AM ET

Nobody, including Peyton himself, knows if he can ever play again.

January 25, 2012  09:58 AM ET

The Colts need to draft Luck and start him right away...Peyton has been great for Indy but most of the great ones end up somewhere else at the end of their careers...Montana, Unitas, even Favre...Indy needs to rebuild and Manning deserves another shot at a Super Bowl...that shot will only come with another team

January 25, 2012  09:58 AM ET

This only means that Dan Snyder will be making him an offer he can't refuse...
