Gasol's role remains unsolved mystery

08:15 AM ET 01.25 | Pau Gasol, generally considered a congenial sort, has quite a bit to say lately. [On Monday. Gasol] roared something that the Orlando Magic might want to tack on its bulletin board. "I don't think Dwight Howard is that much more talented," Gasol said, "than me and Andrew in the post." Yet, when it came to talking with Coach Mike Brown about his hope to have more of a low-post presence than simply facilitating, Gasol suddenly became silent. "I'll let the coaching staff make their own judgements and coach," Gasol said. ... What that entails remains unclear. With the Lakers (10-8) entering their game Wednesday against the Clippers, Brown remains just as vague on whether he'll restructure his offense.

LA's problem is the age of Kobe but because he's jacking up crazy shots and putting up numbers we're all blind to it. Kobe can't dominate and defend like he used. He's like Paul Pierce with the only difference being that Pierce has older guys around him...

It goes to show you why you need a head coach that has the ability to lead men and gain their respect. This league is 90 % player driven- you don't need a brilliant x's and o's guy....but it is that coach that gets everyone on the same page. Without a proper coach a talented team doesn't always play up to expectations

Actually you need both but I get your point. I think brown biggest issue is he isn't an x's & o's guy on offense.

Mike Brown is a scrub. I don't understand the falling out with Phil Jackson, the man has proven he wins championships that teams otherwise wouldn't win without him. Then the ownership turns around and hires a scrub, whose claim to fame is the "Lebron Offense" where four guys stand idle around the perimeter while the star plays 1 on 5. All this Laker talk about big free agents this year never made sense to me. If I'm Dwight Howard, or if I was Chris Paul a few months ago, Lakers aren't even an option b/c they don't have an adequate coaching staff.

Eli! Check your FBB team man. You need to move guys into the lineup or Looka is going to beat you seriously.

Mike Brown's system will not work with the current Lakers personnel. The guys on the current Laker roster are specialist with talent, that means you probably can't coach them, meaning you can't have Gasol consistently shoot beyond the three point line, Gasol's best game is in the low post where he can use his skills to his advantage.

With Kobe jacking up shots from every where on the court when ever he chooses is a disadvantage to the Lakers, his shots have to come during the flow of the game and that consist of the ball going inside out, Bynum on one post and Gasol on the other post with rotations between those two guys and a seldom high rotation to take away the double teams and triple teams on the post. Bynum have shown that he can score in the post and dominate; so can Gasol.

Mike Brown's system may have worked in Cleveland, it won't work in LA. Mike Brown has to change his coaching scheme in LA with the type of talent on the team. Kobe can't be allowed to shoot a hundred shot per game, there has to be some kind of control. The Lakers won in LA under Phil Jackson when he took the ball out of Kobe hands and the shots were distributed among other players.

True! His 'coach' is too afraid to stand up and take charge over his superstar player (LBJ or Kobe) so this will continue to happen until he grows a pair
