Pitt hoops losing fan support

08:25 AM ET 01.26 | On the upside, the Panthers did win Wednesday night, taking down Providence. But the atmosphere ... It was hard to believe it was The Pete. It was sad, actually. We're talking about a spectacular building in which Pitt has given fans as much entertainment value for their sporting dollars -- if not more -- than the Steelers and Penguins. ... Eight minutes into the game, ushers still were moving fans down from the upper levels to make the lower bowl full. That might have happened over the years for some of the one-sided non-conference games against the likes of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Houston Baptist and Maryland-Baltimore County, but I can't remember seeing it at a Big East game.

That won't be a problem for long. There won't be any Big East games played there soon.

This article is a bit misleading because there is a waiting list for season tickets.

Good luck trying to fill up your early season schedule with Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Houston Baptist or Maryland-Baltimore County any longer

Dont tell that to a Hoosier fan! We were selling out Assembly Hall when we were winning 6 games a year and still sticking in the top 10 nationally in attendance. Greatest fans in the country. No doubt about it.

Thats what happens when you stink....C'mon Wagner?

College sports have willingly made themselves a commodity. Yeah, people come and get excited and spend big money when you are exciting and winning. And when you're not, they don't. Not too confusing. Maybe they could follow the lead of the Pirates and start having firework night if they can't field a competitive team.

A week night against Providence with the team struggling like they are is no surprise for the no-shows. Pitt BB fans have been spoiled by the program's regular season success the last ten years. They show up at the Pete expecting to win. That hasn't happened much there lately. A couple of wins and they will be back.
