Nabokov a short-term fix in Tampa?

08:38 AM ET 01.27 | The NHL's All-Star Game gives league GMs a bit of time to assess their teams and talk shop. Expect to hear lots of rumors during the next few days as a result. But which players could actually move in a trade? ... [Evgeni Nabokov] He is playing very, very well. He carries a modest salary. He will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. He never wanted to come to Long Island in the first place; he signed with Detroit after fleeing the KHL and the Islanders claimed him on waivers. The Islanders are 10 games out of the last Eastern Conference playoff spot. Nabokov could be a short-term goaltender fix for the talented Lightning -- and he could parlay that into bigger money there next season.

As long as Deeps is on your goalie depth chart, you're going to need an extra goalie. Having said that, what would Garth take in trade? What would Tampa give up?

First rounder, not sure if anything else would be necessary. At this point that's a top-ten pick and there's a good chance it stays that way.

These two teams could definitely get something done, no doubt.

Maybe the Isles could trade Nabby to the Nucks for Luongo. That way they could have their goalie problems locked up for a long time.

Montoya is back from concussion, played well against Toronto and was the Isles best goalie before the injury. So I say trade Nabokov. The Playoffs are very unlikely and I really do not think trading Nabokov makes them weaker unless Montoya gets injured again. Koskonin and Poulin are more then capable back ups.
Is this going to turn into an annual trade b/w the bolts an Isles?

DP is gone for the year. So we're stuck with Montoya and Nabby. I'm glad Nabby has sucked it up and decided to play for the Isles this year. They needed him. He also upped his trade value a bit.
Isles have some pretty good rookie goaltenders sitting in the AHL, so trading Nabby for a 1st rounder would be a no-brainer if you ask me.
Tampa seems to like old goalies that previous played for the Isles......maybe it'll happen again.

Fingers crossed that something in the new CBA allows the Isles to get out of that dumb contract. The more this guy gets injured, the more likely he'll retire. Such a shame.

Good cheap trade-bait the Isles got for almost nothing. If they trade him it will be a good final decision.

Didn't Luongo played for the Isles way back when?

Yep - pretty much. Injuries plagued this guy from the get go. They'll never live down the mistake of giving him that long term mess.

Contract signing was the kiss of death

They signed Yashin, bought him out, didn't learn their lesson and went and did worse with Ricky Bodycast. They deserve no such clause. It's not a dumb contract, it's dumb management, and they should pay for their stupidity.

6 one way, half a dozen the other. I'm not defending a damn thing when it comes to that contract and I agree with you.
I'm praying for a retirement at this point.
