Thomas no-show could facilitate trade

08:42 AM ET 01.27 | Tim Thomas's views off the ice may find him in hot water. Could [Thomas'] political protest end up costing him his spot on the Bruins? Even before Thomas' ill-advised stunt, the possibility existed that Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli might face a difficult and profoundly important decision this summer on the netminder, who turns 38 this April and has just one year remaining on his contract. Thomas' decision to snub the White House and then release an anti-big government manifesto was an embarrassment for the team and no doubt angered the front office and ownership greatly. ... [While] Thomas has a no-trade provision for the first three years of the deal, that clause expires July 1.

If the Bruins trade Thomas or otherwise cut him loose, it'll be because he's 38 and nothing lasts forever. It aint gonna be because he didn't go to the White House. Ridiculous. Who the heck writes this crap?

Wouldn't be so sure. Chiarelli Neely & co. don't tolerate this kinda crap; see Kessel, Phil.

Agree. Just not sure who is going to take what's left on his contract. Not sure what the details are, but is it $3 Mil, or $5 Mil? I am sure someone will take him...no doubt, regardless of age.

Garth Snow?

Trade Nabby to Tampa for a first rounder, then trade the first rounder to Boston for TT. Sounds like a Garth Snow move to me.

Yea, and if Thomas leads the Bruins to another Cup this year, I'm sure their first move will be to trade him. Who writes this stuff?

Sounds like a move another GM with the initials GS would make ;)

exactly. But alas, there are people out there (those who get their "news" from any Murdoch owned outlet...see NY POST, etc) that will point to this and scream LIBERAL MEDIA....LIBERAL CONSPIRACY....FIRST AMENDMENT>>>>

I'm just wondering if they are concerned that one of their players insulted the president or is it because they are liberal democrats who think Obama is god and no mortal has the right to insult him?

Maybe they'll just make him go to the same re-education camp they sent the Avery to after his "sloppy seconds" comment.

Well, the Dixie Chicks weren't allowed to insult GW, but Thomas is a God?

Look, he will take the the good/bad for his comments, and life will go on.

If he is traded, I do believe it will be what's best for the team/franchise where HOCKEY is concerned, not cause of the White House situation.

January 27, 2012  09:47 AM ET

It's like a catch-22 situation. You have to repect Thomas for standing firm on his beliefs, but it really wasn't the time or place to spin his rhetoric! The team should've come 1st!

Liberal Democrats aren't thinking that Obama is a god. See Damon, Matt.

Me thinks you exaggerate a bit.
