NASCAR to still punish disparaging comments

10:01 AM ET 01.28 | NASCAR CEO Brian France said Thursday the sanctioning body still would fine its members for disparaging the sport in the wake of abolishing its policy of private punishments. In the past two years, Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski and Ryan Newman were punished for making comments (or in Hamlin's case, posting on Twitter) that NASCAR deemed detrimental to its brand. Keselowski privately was fined $25,000 for criticizing the switch to fuel injection during a fan forum at the NASCAR Hall of Fame last November. When news of the penalty leaked, it drew plenty of derision from fans and news media.

They have bought several cases of soap. If the fine doesn't work, it's wash the mouth out with soap time.

It's the old story, " Don't bite the hand that feeds you " Free speech or not, they have the right to fine a driver, they have been warned. Now, the only difference is the public will know about it. Suppose it should be that way.

Looks to me that someone here feels that FREEDOM OF SPEECH is a thing of the past.Plus his hero obamASS wants to remove all of our rights like nascar is doing.FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS A RIGHT.

NASCAR said they were dropping the secret fines, but we shall see.
And for the record the First Amendment only states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. There is nothing in there concerning corporations (like NASCAR), or other private entities. Disagree with this as much as you'd like, but that is how it is found in the U.S. Constitution.
