Oswalt sweepstakes. Huh. Grab your raffle tickets. He obviously would have an easier time in the NL Central. But Boston has the means to overpay

Boston may have the means. But they don't have the will to overpay for high risk.
Oswalt could be a gem this year, or end up on the scrapheap of pitchers heading to surgery. After having 2 starters and an excellent reliever head to Tommy John in 2011, the Red Sox are a bit snakebit. The more I think about how their season evolved to a September with a burned-out bullpen, the more I believe they'll settle for a guy like Jackson who is at least a good bet to give them lots of innings. And he knows the division.

I thought he was going to the cardinals?

The Cardinals GM denies that any deal is in the works. They already have 5 starting picthers, and Lohse and Westbrook have full no trade clauses. Unless they don't mind going to camp with 6 starters

....and that is the multi million dollar question. Could be a great aquisition....could be a bust!

You might want to read the smoke signals coming from Cherington and the owners. Boston isn't begging. They now have 5 players they can put in a rotation, so they're willing to walk.
The begging is now on Oswalt and Jackson. Oswalt wants to pitch for the Rangers or for the Cardinals, but their rotations are set. The Orioles want Jackson, but Borass says only if they offer him a multi-year megadeal. (He'll get destroyed having to pitch against both the Yankees and the Red Sox, and on a mediocre team at best.)

Feliz, Darvish, Ogando, Harrison, Holland, Lewis, Oswalt.

I would think with his back history to go along with his age, a bust would be the most probable outcome.

I'm surprised that Houston is named as having interest.

I'm not sure if its that they don't want to spend the money more than its the money they already have tied up on pitches that won't pitch this year. Even though they didn't make the playoffs last year they for a good part of the summer played great ball with only 2 decent starters and the rest of the staff being off. I think a lot depends on Bucholz this year to see if he'll pitch healthy like he did in 2010.

I do like how the media keeps throwing that word sweepstakes out there which is supposed to make it look like there is a ton of interest and not limited like there as been this year.

The biggest reason to stay away from Oswalt, may be the fact that the team that knows him and his health the best, the Phillies don't seem to be interested at all. Even at a low risk low cost deal.

Then again, the Yankees let Aceves go.
It's a gamble.

the cards were involved with Oswalt and they had said that the cards would sign him, the rangers still thinking why they didn't sign fielder, the red sox wouldn't sign Oswalt at all not even to a minor league deal, jackson makes more sense to the rangers needs, and to the cards jackson would be the right fit in their rotation, on the red sox we all know too well that they can't afford jackson!!!

the rangers still steaming about fielder's lose, the rangers still refusing to give a fair contract to holland, and as we all are aware about napoli, this guy will have to enjoy being under paid in the rangers organization!!!

the phillies don't need him, the red sox do, the cards do, the rangers don't need him as a starter but perhaps they would use him in the long relieve role!!
