Crisis in finding everyday position players?

08:10 AM ET 01.30 | Players built to become productive everyday players in baseball, as, in the eyes of some, it becomes more difficult to find position players who can hit in all situations and play sound defense. In other words, the volume of prospects projected to play 150 games and have 600 plate appearances annually is diminishing. This is why the ability of Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder to be in the lineup every day was one of the major selling points of their free agency, and why the Seattle Mariners operated in the face of conventional wisdom and traded a young starting pitcher with No. 1-type stuff -- Michael Pineda -- for Jesus Montero, who is expected to be a strong everyday offensive player at catcher or designated hitter.

This trade will come back to bite Seattle -- as do almost ALL trades with the Yankees. You don't trade good young pitching, especially good young pitching under your financial control!

montero needed to go and if there was a window where you could get a top prospect for him why not get it? the yankees did it and the mariners did it, at the end both sides won!!

everybody talks about how poor diffense fielder plays, but it seems as if the tigers didn't have any knowledge amout that weak side from fielder, now thay are saying that maybe he should share his DH spot with cabrera? i thought fielder would be a first baseman? and whatever happen to their idea of moving cabrera to the thirdbase? now the tigers are thinking in trading inge due to a lack of offense from inge side? prado was available for the longest why the tigers didn't trade for him?? too slow to make up their minds??

It's bad enough these Truth and Rumors post gravitate toward the "wild speculation" and "who cares?" ends of the news spectrum, but can we at least find writers who can craft a grammatically correct lead sentence? You have to read the follow up "in other words" sentence just to make any kind of sense of the first. No wonder these never have writers' names attached...

Montero for Pineda was a good trade for both teams. Both teams got exactly what they needed from the deal, and both dealt from strengths within the organization.
