08:25 AM ET 01.30 | At least on the surface, there are few more buyoant presences at an NHL event than Calgary's Jarome Iginla. [Iginla] is a veteran of more than 1,100 games with more than 500 goals and 1,000 points, but he doesn't get tired of events such as the NHL All-Star Game. In fact, at this point, he savors them. "Every one you're at, you never know if you're going to be there again and you try to appreciate it and look at it," he said. ... "It seems a lot younger this year. You get a chance to meet some of them. You admire some of the different styles of different players. I think every year, just in hockey, you try to appreciate it and reflect. I hope to play for five, six more years, but even that will go quickly."

Iggy to Vancouver for the Sedin sisters.
Oh, wait. I forgot a Sutter is a coach in Calgary. That might not work out so well ... for the sisters.

Would love to see Iggy get a shot at the Cup anywhere. Such a class act and talent, and deserves it.

I agree. I think deep inside he would welcome a change of scenery to a Cup contender.

I'm kind of torn on this stuff. I agree with what you said, (about Iginla's character, etc) but I also think it's kind of sad that a player has to sacrifice loyalty...a sorely missed quality...to get a ring that validates their career. I felt the same way when Ray Borque went to Colorado.
Do you know how many rings Ted Williams has? (answer: 0) And this Yankee fan thinks he may be one of the best players ever. The HOF in every sport is chock full of guys that didn't win it all. Does that make their career any less than those who did? Did Trent Dilfer have a more meaningful career than Barry Sanders? Anyway....good morning all

I understand where you are coming from, and you make great points.
If push came to shove though, I respect the idea of going after the Cup more than going after money. Speaking hypothetically...

absolutely...just jumping teams to get a larger paycheque is anathema to me.

Jumbo Jay has stated that Jerome has never asked to be traded on many occasions. That is GM speak for " we are too chicken to move him unless he wants to be the bad guy" Not only are Jays "stones" well hidden they are also not functioning

Eh, not sure. I have not made it a secret, would love to have him even for a year or two. We are deep in D-Men, but I hate to part with any of them (can you say selfish?) ha. ha. I know he and Crosby are friends, but JI can get along with anyone. Any team would love to have him.
Not sure Pens ARE a Cup contender w/o him and Sid. But with him...different story. :)

I agree with you about team loyalty, but in the case of the NHL - beyond the other pro sports - I think there is something truly different about having one's name on the Cup.
Didn't Boston celebrated as much as Denver when Bourque won his Cup?
Just my 2 cents.

Letang's back, and Malkin's on fire right now, plus you have Cup vets on that team.
I say (right now) Rangers, Bruins, Pens and Philly are the East favorites. In a seven game series, Pens easily have a shot to go on a deep PO run.
Iggy would just be icing on the cake.

And, in an odd way, Boston was showing a lot of loyalty to Bourque by trading him to a Cup contender. They knew they weren't in a position to win it before he retired so they did a good deal for him. It must have been hard on Bruins fans, but it was a decent gesture on the organization's part.

Iginla certainly seemed to be enjoying himself yesterday. Everytime the camera caught him he had a huge smile on his face.

I know, wasn't it terrible when Mats Sundin had to go to Vancouver to get one?

The only D men I would absolutely refuse to part with are Orpik, Letang, and Despres. Despres is going to be great some day. The Pens could afford to lose Lovejoy, Martin, Michalex or Engelland and not really be hurt too bad.
I don't think they have the cap space and I don't think they will make much of a run for the Cup. Just saying.

It was kinda sad. They've obviously never won a Cup but his odds were better. ;-)
Canuck eh?
