08:23 AM ET 01.30 | Yes, Arik Armstead went with the now traditional cap placement to announce his commitment to an already strong recruiting class for Oregon. Armstead, rated as a five-star offensive lineman by most recruiting services and as a four-star defensive lineman with loads of potential by Rivals.com, will be the top defensive lineman prospect to sign with Oregon since current Baltimore Ravens star Haloti Ngata in 2002. Armstead's commitment also potentially enhances Oregon's prospects of signing his pal, safety Shaq Thompson, a five-star recruit out of Grant High School in Sacramento, rated as the No. 4 overall prospect in the country by Rivals. ... Various reports have Thompson torn between Oregon, California and Washington.

Now I know why Chip decided to stick around.

This Armstead thing has really blown up. I hope it all turns out the his recruitment by any and all schools were on the up and up.... well, who am I kidding. As long as it does not involve Alabama, I don't really care if any other school gets caught on his recruitment.

This isn't sour grapes, either. He eliminated us, or we eliminated him several weeks ago and we were expecting him to choose someone other than us.

Even though ND "appeared" to be in the running for this kid for a while I have to say I'm not too disappointed he decided to go elsewhere. The Irish could certainly use a 5 star recruit (and his brother too) but the more the whole situation developed and the lack of information (what illness does his brother have that would not allow USC in good conscience to clear him to play) forthcoming made the whole thing smell a little. Congrats to Oregon anyway. I hope he turns out to be "the real deal" for you guys...!

With todays modern communications the NCAA needs to find a way to stop the flip flopping. They should put a ban on the verbal commits, and even suggesting what team you might attend. Because from the looks of things a lot of these kids aren't worth their word. I think Arik was stringing the media along, now remember he still hasn't signed yet, so this kid can still change his mind another dozen times in the next 24 hours.

Just wait, quite a few people will bring up that, Chip is cheating to get all of these recruits. I think I seen Willie in Portland the other day!!! LOL.

Their 17-18 when they make verbals. Remember what verbal contracts are worth.

It will only get worse as more and more media coverage is geared toward NSD.

Most know its Phil's pockets that are bringing them in.

If Chip's smart, he'll distance himself from that group if he hasn't already.

I guess he liked the schizophrenic atmosphere of Oregon. A Coach who can't decide if he wants to stay, and school that can't decide on what uniform to wear from week to week. Now I know where the rest of Jim Jones congregation fled to, Oregon. The Oregonian must think that the world is made up of people with a lemming personality like Oregonians and they all sip from the same Kool-aid bowl as them. Lets see Armstead and Thompson have know each other for how long? If Shaq wants to go to a school that his friends attend he would join his old High School teammates at Cal. Let me say once again if Lupoi was such a recruiting magnet why have none of these kids that made verbals to Cal gone off to Washington. Shaq Thompsons mother has already said her son will be going to the school that Shaq's brother Syd Quan Thompson attended-Cal .

Whatever happened to that NCAA investigation? Wasn't Oregon paying this guy so that he would send recruits to Oregon.

Isn't Oregons recruiting Motto; We have a great criminal law department, so if you are criminally intent then I'm sure we can find a lawyer for you.

I think so, just like Willie Lyles was "Accused" of sending recruits to Cal, LSU, Texas and Oregon, but let me put quite a bit of emphasis, on the word "Accused"!!!!!
