08:24 AM ET 01.30 | Buckle up, NHL fans, the trade season is warming to a simmer. [There's] a chance the trade season will get going for real after the All-Star break. One name that could move as early as this week is Tuomo Ruutu, the Carolina Hurricanes forward who is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. ... Meanwhile in Columbus, GM Scott Howson is expecting he'll be a very busy man in the next four weeks. Aside from the obvious rental players (players who will be UFAs on July 1) he'll attempt to move, keep an eye on center Jeff Carter. Howson, we're told, is willing to move Carter less than a year after acquiring him from the Flyers, in part because the player doesn't want to be in Columbus.

Is there a reason why anyone would want to play for Columbus, other than contractual obligation?

The Buttgoblin better stop this immediately !! If Columbus is hosting the allstar scrimmage next year they best have at least 1 guy repping the home team ;-)

How many fans do you think they will have to import to fill the stadium for the ASG next year?

January 30, 2012  10:02 AM ET

Must be a slow day at ESPN for them to post a hockey story.

How the heck does Howson still even have a job? this guy is the worst GM in hockey (not withstanding Garth Snow). Useless drafts, horrible trades. I'm surprised that the Blue Jackets fans are still even turning out to the games.

The Hershey Bears

Hey! The Bears are a LOT more talented than the Jackets.

Forget the mess in Pheonix...the mess in Columbus is a joke. They pretty much pay you to go to the game and they feed you. Time to look at moving one team to Quebec City/Hamilton and contracting the rest...make for a much better league.

Garth is DEFINITELY not the worst GM in hockey.

Poor Rick Nash - this guy is an unbelievable hockey player that's had ZERO talent to support him. I thought Carter would be a good fix for that. Turns out, the guy's not interested in playing for Columbus. Such a shame.
