08:34 AM ET 02.01 | Not many hockey fans know that a struggling pro team once called Brooklyn home. Now, another New York team, desperate for the very same things, will go to Brooklyn for one night. The Brooklyn Americans practiced in Brooklyn only during the 1941-42 season, while playing their home games in Madison Square Garden in the shadow of the New York Rangers. The Brooklyn Americans folded the next season. The New York Islanders, tied for last place in their conference and playing in the obsolete Nassau Coliseum, are scheduled to play an exhibition game against the New Jersey Devils in Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Oct. 2, perhaps to test the ice for a future move.

They had one in Kansas City too and it didn't make a difference. I can't imagine there's much of a hockey market in Hipsterville.

Make up your minds. Are they testing water or ice?

and the trouble with those hip neighbourhoods is that sooner or later (usually sooner) they become un-hip again.

Anyone know when the Coliseum lease is up?

I'm not sure how news worthy this thread is. Now if they were playing an exhibition game in Quebec . . . . .

This is some good reporting...perhaps to test the waters. Going out on a limb there.

The Brooklyn Burros. You know, Brooklyn is a borough of New York, but you need to have an animated logo.

QUOTE(#10):

I saw this on the NHL channel last night. Technically, Brooklyn is on the Island, so I guess they can still be the Islanders, but I wonder how much of a financial improvement this would make as far as long term attendance. And can they get a better tv deal? How much better could it be?

I think one of the good things about potentially moving to Brooklyn would be access to mass transit.

All the literalists are out today.

John Tavares looks good no matter what team he'd be playing for...
