08:03 AM ET 02.02 | Walking without a limp and playing in the Super Bowl are two very different things for Rob Gronkowski. [Gronkowski] said Wednesday that the team is looking into a specialized cleat he could wear in Super Bowl XLVI to make it easier for him to play despite a high left ankle sprain. "I think we're going over that tonight, so we will see with the training staff," Gronkowski said. Gronkowski didn't practice on Wednesday. He was the only player who did not participate. ... Tuesday was Gronkowski's first day without a walking boot since injuring the ankle Jan. 22 in the AFC Championship Game. "Rob is doing better, so we'll just have to see where he is today," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said.

Good luck Gronk! Hard to cut and run on a sprained ankle...

What does the NFL allow?... is that a pic of the special cleat?

February 2, 2012  08:34 AM ET

They have to have Gronk on the field for Sunday, even if it's at half speed.

Agree, they have to try to use him, but they'll find out quickly if he's effective or not and take him out if not.
Hope he doesn't damage himself further.

Special Cleat, Half a Cleat, No Cleat.........The man is going to play.

Monday morning, the Number of the Beast will be officially changed to 87. He may be the first tight end to be the Superbowl MVP.

Are those the "cleats" Lotta Lenya wore as Krebs in the James Bond movie?

I think if there wasn't an ankle story to play on before a superbowl the journos would be completely tongue tied at this point. Maybe they would get somebody kneecapped just to have a story

I'm surprised those didn't make an appearance in Roadhouse.

Reporters were told to "cover all the ankles." I'm surprised they haven't asked Rex Ryan for his take. He's pretty well-heeled, buy I'm sure he'd fly in if they'd foot the bill.
