08:04 AM ET 02.03 | With a report that Peyton Manning's surgeon has given him clearance to play, speculation about just where that might be is sure to heat up. Is Arizona in Manning's future? According to sources close to the situation, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is expected to have dinner with the Colts quarterback this week. Fitzgerald and Manning are both spokespersons for Gatorade and have been friends for several years. The Arizona Pro Bowl receiver is expected to make a recruiting pitch in case the Colts and Manning is released. The Cardinals signed former Philadelphia quarterback Kevin Kolb prior to the start of the 2011 season, but Arizona finished the year with an 8-8 record.

Not the craziest idea. Peyton could finish off his career in good weather and still be a godhead in a city that, last I checked, is not exactly doing well in the QB department.

I'm still not sure that PM is going make it all the way back to the level of effectiveness that we have been used to seeing.

Assuming PM isn't going to return to his former glory, potentially not a bad move.

Not saying that Kevin Kolb doesn't belong under a bus, but it's not the job of his receivers to thrown him there. Suppose Arizona doesn't get Manning. How much chemistry is there going to be between Kolb and Fitz?

It would be interesting to see Peyton Manning throwing to Fitzy. Not a bad combination for a few years. Kurt Warner seemed to adjust well to it.

Look, if he plays, anywhere Peyton goes is going to make the team better...and every player in the NFL knows it. It's no wonder that any team who finished out of the playoffs is wanting to have dinner w/ Manning.

If Manning becomes a FA I think the best landing spot for him is San Fran.
Alex Smith is a FA and I don't see them giving him a long term deal. And they are a team that is built to win now. And I'm pretty sure Manning would manage to complete more than one 3 yard pass to a WR ...................

Peyton and Wayne to SF makes a startling amount of sense.

Wow Fitz, you just begged for Kolb last year and now you wanna throw him under the bus for Manning?

I hope you are right. This would be the shiniest thing to happen. It just depends on Irsay's ego and if he doesn't alienate Manning. Manning staying and working Luck into the system would be the smartest thing they could possibly do.
But, are they going to be smart?

they won 7 of their last 9 and only lost to the giants (super bowl participants) by 4 and the ravens (afc championship participants) by 3. seems like there might be something positive going on there without payton.

Makes a lot of sense -but SF may have to change a bit on offense -hopefully bring Wayne with him -and they'd need to get some better pass protectors
