08:10 AM ET 02.03 | There was a time when Mark Cuban ripping officials might be met with a yawn, but does he have a point during this condensed season? [Dallas' loss to the Thunder] caused Cuban to complain about what he considers an epidemic of poor officiating in this lockout-condensed season. "Look, I haven't said a whole lot about the officiating in a long, long time, but I haven't seen it this bad in a long, long time," Cuban told ESPNDallas.com. ... "All I'm saying is some of these guys are bad. Let me rephrase that. Some of these guys are having really bad nights, and it's having an impact. The league's got to come out and say, 'OK, look, we understand they're going through some tough travel or whatever. It's just the way it is.'"

I would care if the NBA wasn't fixed. Just watch the last four minutes. The refs keep it close because the league wants the ad revenue. Blow outs cause people to turn the channel.

Tough to disagree with him. The nba refs are the worst officials in all of sports by far. Look at how much better NCAA refs are. The NBAs unionized refs have too much power and feel too secure in their jobs. The refs should be graded by a third party and let go if making too many bad calls. We have 70 year old refs in the nba trying to keep up with the fast pace of the game. The nba needs to keep refs that are under 40 and that understand its a privilege and could be fired any day for any bad call. Enough of the wwe style nba refs that call everything for the stars but not for the avg player. A foul is a foul, whether it's Kobe and lebron or Adam Morrison. It almost seems like there's two sets of rules in the nba and it ruins the integrity of the game. Many friends I have who love basketball, will not watch the nba because the poor officiating gives a rigged vibe off and who can blame them when you see officiating like that mavs/thunder game

Sheesh! Here we go again! Cuban is a one note tune with this. Isn't it ironic that he doesn't complain when his team wins?

It doesn't make him wrong. The nba refs are absolute garbage.

Sorry but the refs being too old to keep up with the fast pace of the game jeopardizes the integrity of the game. The nba refs are the worst officials in all of sports. College refs are infinitely better and pro refs should never be of a lesser quality than college officials

Wow, first you want all people microchipped, now you don't want the elderly to have jobs. No disrepect Commander but, please don't run for President!

And don't twist my words Eli. The elderly can have jobs, but the fast paced action of the nba isn't the job for them. The nba refs should be younger and able to keep up with the game. More importantly, the officials need to be graded and not feel so secure in their job that they can get away with biased calls and awful officiating. Many people don't watch the nba because their officials resemble wwe officials. The refs should never be a reason for a large segment of basketball fans to abandon pro basketball, but year after year the officials get worse and get called out more and more.

It is a league wide problem. They won't even consider a 70 year old player. Look, all we want is a fair opportunity. If teams employed more 70 year olds as players then 70 year old refs could keep up with the game more easily.

The NBA referees should have a mandated fitness and proficiency test prior to the beginning of every season. To say that "the NBA needs to keep refs that are under 40" is ignorant and discriminatory.

This is crazy....If a player complained about the officials then everyone would be talking about stop crying and another millionaire complaining just do your job. Cuban doesnt get a pass...Shut up and watch the game. Your player get his fair share of B.S. calls.

February 3, 2012  10:32 AM ET

So Cuban says NBA refs suck? He could've said "the sky is blue" and it would've have equally as enlightening. Yeah, Mark, we all know they suck.

February 3, 2012  10:34 AM ET

NFL refs make some of the worst calls in the world...The only difference is they get to go correct theirs because of instant replay. Watch some of the pass interference calls and dont get me started on ruffing the passer. Besides have you watched a Hockey game....everyone knows the NBA caters to its stars and Dirk gets catered also.

Perhaps it's extreme, but it's better for the integrity of the game than 60-70 year old refs who continuously make bad calls and feel secure in their jobs to continue making the same awful calls. The nba refs are the worst officials in all of sports and it's not even close. Whatever evaluation the nba does for it's refs it isn't enough. The standards for officiating need to be drastically raised. NCAA refs are much better. If a 40+ year old ref can meet the qualifications, more power to them but the standards for officials are set far too low and the bar needs to be raised quite a bit. In a professional sports league, there is no excuse for such pitiful officiating. They are human and we can forgive a bad call here and there, but they consistently make awful calls game after game and nothing is done.
