08:13 AM ET 02.03 | Karl Malone took the occasion of co-hosting a radio show recently to air his feelings on Deron Williams and Jerry Sloan. The Jazz have stayed with their company line that Sloan simply got tired and decided the time was right to jump aboard his John Deere and ride off into the sunset. Malone, who regularly talks with Sloan, called B.S. on that. "That defining moment when [management and ownership] should have stood up for Jerry Sloan, they chose Deron Williams." ... [Kevin O'Connor], who heard what Malone said on Friday, agreed to come on the show on Tuesday, and he called B.S. back. "Karl wasn't in the room, I was in the room," O'Connor said, "and the only thing I can tell you is, I'd like you guys to go ask Jerry."

It's a players league

Why isn't Malone asking Coach Sloan directly instead of making assumptions?

February 3, 2012  08:54 AM ET

Poor Sloan.... One of the greatest coaches ever....

That is the problem...the NBA is a bad product and I would not be surprised to hear of declining viewership and lower attendance. David Stern as commissioner is laughable...a bad face on a bad product. Lebron is an unlikable personality, and Wade is becoming more so. Carmelo is a highly over regarded as a player.....I would love to see some teams go bankrupt....not many redeeming qualities in the NBA.

Wow...strong statements...so guys like Durant, CP3, Blake, Dirk, Kobe, D.Rose (reigning MVP) dont draw you in? Besides..who cares if you like the guy personally or not? Can he or can he not play is all you should care about.

No one seems to give a rip about the personality or character of tv/movie star..only athletes for some reason, ESPECIALLY NBA players..smh

Uhhh, how many times has anyone paid to see the coaches do their job? Who goes to a basketball game to watch a players personality? It's a game people not a popularity contest. I don't care if they are all butt holes. I watch the game, i don't care about their personal lives because it has nothing to do with me. If they get arrested let the legal system handle it, if they go broke thats on them.

The Jazz did fire Sloan because of D-Will and then try to clean it up by trading D-Will to retain their fan base. I remember the fans turning their backs after Sloan is fired. These pampered players in the league today are full of **** and seem to have the organization in their back pocket. Malone is right!

I have often thought about why it's ok for entertainers like musicians and actors to be drug addicts, wife beaters , crude ect. and it's accepted by the public but when entainers like athletes do it, it's not ok. I think the reason is that like it or not the athletes are represenatives of the city, state, university that is on their jersey. Many cities are Known nationally for their sports teams so if the athletes are constantly in troble it kind of gives a city a bad name. Also because of the Olympics , athletes actually represent an entire country. Lil Wayne only represents himself but an NBA player represents that city he plays for. Just my opinion

So did you read the article or just skim. It says that Malone, "who regularly talks with Sloan"...
Sounds like Sloan IS talking to Malone. Unfortunately, Deron Williams just wanted out of Utah. It had nothing to do with Sloan, but he took it out on Sloan for being miserable there. Funny how when Sloan left, they went down the tubes. Shows how much Sloan had to work for those wins, coming back in many games by over 20 points against Miami and others.

I watch to see the best players in the world play basketball. But in order to do that you need the best coaches in the world too. The teams that retain a good coach for a long period of time and get players that fit his system are the most successful ones over the long haul. Phil has 11 rings for a reason (yes he had some awesome teams but his coaching puts those teams on top of the mountain). These guys who come in (one and done from college), the majority of them don't know anything about offensive systems or defense and have really incomplete games. That's why it takes a lot of them so long to get adjusted to the NBA. A good coach gets those guys where they want to be faster and a good coach keeps those players who might be trouble off the court in check. Don't discount the advantage of a good coach...

The first sentence is not true but the rest of your comments are right on the money. Stars and entertainers do get flacks for something they do real bad. It does not excludes from any other scrutiny. Perhaps the stars are more under a microscope than atheletes.

If Tommy Lee gets arreted for drunk and disorderly conduct or Lil Wayne gets busted for pot, in some strange way it just adds to their bad boy rep. If Dirk gets arrested fro drunk and disorderly conduct or LeBron gets busted for pot, it looses the public's faith in them. Right or wrong, it is what it is.
