Oswalt still talking to Red Sox, Reds and Phillies

10:20 AM ET 02.05 | Roy Oswalt is scrambling. Oswalt is known to prefer a team close to his Mississippi home, but his top choices - the Texas Rangers or St. Louis Cardinals - may not have enough money left in their budgets and/or room in their rotations to sign him. That has allowed a number of suitors to remain in contact with Oswalt. The Red Sox, Reds and Phillies are among them, according to major-league sources. Because Oswalt is the "last man standing" among the upper-tier pitching free agents, so to speak, new clubs could emerge. That is particularly the case if they believe they can sign him at a discounted rate.

the red sox are totally broken, the cards are too hesitant in trying to use the money on INJURIED-PRONE Oswalt, the phillies would like to sign him but unless the pitcher gives them a 50% off in their deal!!

I would never have guessed that.

"The Red Sox are totally broken"??????
Where do you get your information? Are you smoking a funny weed?
The Sox are not spending these days to get themselves under the luxury cap, as are the Yankees. They are not "broken" and will spend again when the right opportunities come along, after they reduce their current payroll.
It's called good managment.

Alacran, you are wrong. The Sox have the money, but they do not want to go over the luxury tax.

Boston wants Oswalt, but I think he wants to stay in the NL. I'm thinking Cincinnati now, which surprises me.
Latos-Cueto-Oswalt-Bailey-Leake-Arroyo equals a pretty good rotation.

You guys stop picking on alacran now. I rather enjoy his random, stream-of-consciousness rants. :-D
After a whole winter of fried chicken and beer jokes, you'd think Red Sox fans would be immunized against a little rivalry hate. After all... think of the hay you can make now with an impending, messy Cashman divorce!

I believe Boston would like him, but only on their terms. Reports are they only offered him $5M, and won't go any higher. IMO, Oswalt in the AL East would be a disaster. Forget about him Sox, let one of the kids, Doubront or Tazawa try and win the spot.

I kind of take the Switzerland point of view here. I hope Roy has one more good year, and that he lands in a place where a club can both appreciate and use him.
There would be a bit of sweet irony if an ex-Phillie pitcher from Mississippi was a difference-maker on a 2012 Bosox team. ;-)

I can't ever feel good about a man's messy divorce, unless he is a deserving piece of ****.
Cashman may be a Yankee, but he appears to be a decent guy who couldn't keep his zipper up, and now he'll pay, but it's not baseball and let's leave it alone.

Neither is fried chicken, but it seems to be on the menu this winter.
"a decent guy who couldn't keep his zipper up" seems like a bit of oxymoronic logic. In any case, good luck keeping any of this out of the New York press. This isn't a lot different than Rick Pitino's indiscretions with some nasty hooch in a bar who subsequently tried to bribe him for money. That wasn't basketball, but the press had a field day with it and with her until she was taken away with silver bracelets.
I do however hear you on the "messy divorce" thing, and I won't be sorry to see this blackmailing beach behind bars.
