League could split $2 billion from expansion

08:05 AM ET 02.06 | That's billion, with a B, and nine zeroes -- at least. [Commissioner Roger Goodell] said the league "doesn't want to move any of our teams" and "we probably don't want to go to 33" if the NFL decides expansion is a good choice. ... No doubt at least one expansion team will be playing in Los Angeles in a new stadium and it is not inconceivable both new teams could share the same stadium, or at least be located in the Southern California market. This means the expansion teams would fetch top dollar, likely more than the $1 billion the average NFL team valuation. Bankers put the range between $1 billion and $1.5 billion, depending on location and stadium deal. So if we use the midpoint ($1.3 billion), it means the 32 current owners would pocket about $80 million each.

That would be enough money to make even Jerrah Jones and Danny Boy Snyder willing to add two more teams to the revenue-sharing welfare list.

I don't know Otis.... I'm still stuck on Jackson, Mississippi.

TWO teams could share a SoCal stadium!

Because obviously what will make NFL big again in LA is two expansion teams, filled with castaways from established franchises, that will take a decade to become anything special. TOTALLY makes sense.

They've fallen off since, but the Jags made the AFC Championship game in their 2nd or 3rd season and the Panthers have played in a Superbowl. It all depends on how they structure the expansion draft.

Last two expansion franchises have a combined one playoff victory. And this article mentions placing two in one city. It's absurd.

There aren't any teams in Alaska.

Nor London...

We might as well get ready for this.

Actually, I'm kind of surprised with the talk of potentially expanding to 34 cities. There's already a handful of teams, such as Jacksonville, Tampa, and Cincy for instance, that have a hard time putting fannies in their seats.

Sad, but possibly true. Toronto? Mexico City?

Rogers owns all the media in Canada. He has the bucks and the want.

Please, no more expansion. I don't know why the leagues feel the need to have even more teams and water down the product. Oh wait, yes I do - money.

Would not be surprised at all to see a European division... or 4 teams divided between the AFC and NFC.

It is inevitable.
