Reds in Oswalt race, though trailing

08:13 AM ET 02.06 | If pitchers and catchers are soon reporting, where is it that we'll find Roy Oswalt? The Reds reportedly are one of the teams [Oswalt] is considering, but the sides have had no contact in nearly a week and the Reds would have to juggle the budget to make a deal possible. "We had discussions with them a while ago," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said. ... "If he doesn't sign," Jocketty said, "we'd take another look at it." But the Reds are at or very close to budget. That would probably mean moving payroll to fit Oswalt into the budget. "We'd have to do something," Jocketty said. "It would be tough." Right now, the Reds' rotation lines up as Johnny Cueto, Mat Latos, Bronson Arroyo, Mike Leake and Homer Bailey.

This Oswalt story has been way over-played. Just sign already with someone in the NL.

This is what happens now that Prince signed. The writers seem to be just inserting Oswalt's name in place of Fielder.

Even without Oswalt, that's a pretty fair pitching roster. And it's ALWAYS about pitching ...

It is always about pitching, and it can never be good enough.

Arroyo of late has been less than stellar. Same for Oswalt as well. I suppose a lot of clubs are betting on getting lots of "maybe" candidates showing up this spring and banking on a couple of them having good years.

trailing?? that's not a such of thing as trailing, the red sox aren't going to sign Oswalt because of the injuries plus they would like a lower contract for this pitcher, texas itsn't too sure about signng Oswalt as well. the cards would but the price has to be even smaller, so all in all, the reds could have the best oportunity in this matter!!!

If the Reds have the scratch, it might be worth signing Oswalt just to keep him off the Cardinals' roster. Oswalt OWNED the Reds while w/ Houston... Adding him to Wainwright and Carpenter might really mess w/ the Reds' heads.

I think Oswalt hasn't signed with anyone yet because he likes reading about himself everyday on T & R.

That is a fair assessment. I think Oswalt isn't the hot commodity that him or his agent had hoped. I just don't see him as a fit in the AL.

I don't see him in the AL either. As stated in other Oswalt threads....he could be a great addition for some team. I would think it would be a basic contract with performance laden bonus money. Innings pitched etc.

Yep. It's obvious that Oswalt doesn't want to pitch in the AL, and I can't say I blame him.

Thats what i dont understand. The cards let Pujols walk this winter and what have they done? Signed Beltran who hasnt been able to stay healthy. Add Oswalt to Carpenter and Wainright, Shelby Miller's coming up soon- they can go toe to toe with the Brewers pitching.

Their organization has saved potentially $200M and they're comfortable sitting on their hands? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

I don't think Oswald lit the league on fire last season....or the year before......or the year before that
