Difficult decisions loom in Baltimore

08:04 AM ET 02.07 | Forgive Ravens fans for feeling as if their team should have played Sunday, but, if the team returns with title hopes in 2012, it may do so with a different look. In previous years there were roster spots for veterans that were considered safe, but that's not the case headed into 2012. At least not after last year when the Ravens cut key veterans including tight end Todd Heap, receiver Derrick Mason, defensive tackle Kelly Gregg and running back Willis McGahee. McGahee was expected to get waived because teams don't pay back up running backs $6 million, but there aren't as many obvious salary cap casualties this year. The Ravens have 13 unrestricted free agents and four restricted.

Cap problems, whether to keep aging veterans, free agents, all teams have these problems , not just the Ravens.

They came within a shot of Stick'Em of making the Superbowl, too. The Ravens are like the Colts a few years back: always right there but never quite able to get over the hump.

Another QB would help... maybe they could sign Peyton.

I still think their kicker should paint his toe nails too. couldn't hurt.

looks like the Steelers hired Todd Haley as OC.

Something tells me that there won't be that many changes to the Ravens next year.

That's one way to get on with the NY Jest.

Ravens are fine with Flacco. It wasn't Flacco's fault they were an inch short of making the Superbowl.

Kicker is fine. I'd keep him anytime. Game is played 60 minutes not 18 seconds.

Just like your Steelers - Ravens do a good job of next man up. They will do just fine. After all, 4 straight play off appearances with two afc championship trips.

Give it some time... we're bound to see a thread for that before long.

That could make for some interesting sideline coverage... Haley plays so well with others.

That's a good hire for them.

They did not even mention the problem of what Plan B Reed and Lewis have to decide upon for their health care.

February 7, 2012  10:10 AM ET

Ozzie seems to know what he is doing.

Meh! Don't get me wrong, Reed will be missed but we got two fine corners to make up for his departure. I'm more worried of Lewis' replacement. Then again, the offense is evolving.

It's those damn Patriots that kept getting in the way of the Ravens and Colts.

And they should be better next year.

Average QB = no SB's.
