LSU's Lee says he could have helped in title game

08:19 AM ET 02.07 | Jarrett Lee may have enjoyed his greatest popularity at LSU while not playing. Most galling to a strong and vocal contingent of LSU fans is that Lee didn't get on the field at all in the Tigers' 21-0 loss to Alabama in the BCS championship game. Jefferson went the whole way and struggled. ... Lee repeated quotes he gave while participating in an all-star game in California that he was frustrated by not getting in the BCS title game. "I felt, if I was given the opportunity, I could have come in and done things to help," Lee said. "I don't know what happened. Obviously, the coaches had a reason for doing what they did. As a player, you have to respect that. But there were some players and plays that could have helped us win."

Easy to say after the fact. Lee needs to take a hard look at his record against Alabama. Its not pretty.

He sounds like Uncle Rico.

"If coach'd put me in, we'd 'a won state."

Of course Lee said that.

It wasn't which QB played IMHO. It was the stubbornness of not developing a back up plan when you couldn't run the ball down the other teams throat.

BTW, the announcers in the Super Bowl said the Giants were dead last in rushing this year in the NFL! Don't know if that's true but if it is, so much for having to run the ball to win.

This isn't news.. It would be news if Lee came out and said, "Man, I'm glad coach didn't put me in......I would have done worse!"

I just checked and its true..For some reason I would have never predicted the Giants to be last in rushing.. just doesnt seem right

agreed. I always thought that was kinda their thing.

But Eli did have a near record year passing methinks. If I recall correctly, early in the year he was with Rogers, Brady and Brees as guys that could have eclipsed Marino's record this year.

This is the kind of thing you usually say when put on the spot. If he was asked about it, what does he say? If you say you would have sucked, well, what little chance you had of the NFL goes out the window because you have no confidence.

Eli was asked before the season if he should be included in the elite group of QBs and he said yeah. And caught some flack for it. But, in a way, you kinda want a guy to be confident like that.

Yeah Eli proved his worth this year...But dead last... thats krazy.. I would have guessed at least middle of the road.. But wasnt Bradshaw out during the season... oh well.. they ran pretty well against the Pats

I heard this:

They are the first 9-7 team to win the Super bowl? Is that correct?

They are the first team outscored in total in the regular season that won the Super Bowl.

I thought that was a little wacky too...considering they have, what I consider, some some pretty good running backs and o-line.

If so, it definitely proves the adage "stats are for losers".

Lies, damn lies, and statistics.

Lee had a good enough year to be invited to post season all star games. Jefferson wasn't having a bad game, he was having a historicaly bad game. Alabama was playing a brilliant defensive game, so I'm not silly enough to think LSU would have won the game with Lee at quarterback, but I do think Lee should have been given a shot. Jefferson had 53 yards and an interception. I don't think it is unreasonable to think Lee might have helped.

No one could have helped LSU against a far superior team on every level.

Buthurt LSU fans need to get over it and move on. Order has been restored.

Could be.. Heck Pitt won the SB as the 6th seed... FN starting F'n up again

I think the announcers said in that same comment that the last few Super Bowl Champs weren't ranked very high in rushing...and in some cases, defense either. They mentioned the Packers, Saints and Colts for sure. I think they said only the Steelers of the last ten years were very highly ranked in those two areas.
