Crosby's skate with team no cause for celebration

08:28 AM ET 02.07 | Sometimes, a skate is just a skate. [Being] heavily involved in the practice at the Bell Centre didn't mean that Sidney Crosby will be in the lineup when the Penguins face Montreal [Tuesday]. He won't. Doesn't indicate that he has taken a significant step toward getting back in uniform, either. He hasn't. Doesn't mean anything, really, except that Crosby preferred to have some company when he skated. ... [With Jordan Staal and Simon Despres] having received medical permission to resuming practicing with their teammates, Crosby faced the prospect of working out on his own unless he went on the ice for the whole-group workout. "He would have been lonely all by himself," coach Dan Bylsma said, smiling.

Well, playing against an AHL team like the Habs would certainly be a nice, soft, easy return.

Or Burke thinking about being irked.

I can't see Sid coming back this year.

February 7, 2012  09:50 AM ET

It's not a cause for celebration but it is a cause for another useless FN thread on the topic.

Think of the kitten that ran onto the field at Anfield last night. Makes everything better!

Just wait folks...there's another Subban getting drafted this year and he's a gumper.

Maybe he'll be the next Billy Smith!

I think the lineage is Billy Smith --> Ron Hextall --> Tim Thomas --> this new guy.

i'm no idiot, i know crosby is good, he's one of the best! I'm no pens fan, and i'd love for him to come back, but here's the honest truth : HANG EM UP KID!!! Do it on your own terms, not when some doctor tells you to do it. You've done it all, stanley cup, gold at olympics, a few trophies along the way... now you're going to risk life long head injuries for what?!? a chance to play a few more games and get hit against the boards JUST a little harder then your brain can possibly handle.

IT'S NOT WORTH IT!!! I HATE using this example, but take a look at Mohammed Ali! I'm pretty sure he regrets getting in the ring as many times as he did in the end...

as for the Subban posts : everyone loves to hate him, but they'd take him on their team in a heart beat! the kid has HEART and passion, you can't get that in a vast majority of the players in the league right now. He's getting more ice time then most of his teammates, often more then ALL of them, save for the goalie! lol

The Subban hate cracks me up, you'd be stupid as a GM to say no if he came along asking for a job on your team, or if Gauthier used him as trade bait (which, if he does, he's a god-damn MORON!)

Actually no. We have really good D-men, who aren't trying to slew foot someone every game.

We are already have someone we are trying to "reform," and we don't need another "case" on our hands. Thanks.

And Sid will hang them up when he is ready. It isn't that I am in complete disagreement with your post re: Sid. However, he is young and knows NOTHING else but hockey. If there is hope in his recovery, even if it is two years from now, he will fight tooth and nail to get there if it means to play one more year.
