Jefferson County (Ga.) lineman A.J. Harmon, a one-time Clemson commitment who pledged his allegiance to Georgia on NBC on Saturday, is still not sure where he is going to college. am 100 percent Georgia right now. "But I know it is not over until February," he said. "I hope I can make a decision by February." Given the history of Harmon's recruitment, a decision seems iffy.

AJ: "Ahhhhhhhh.....ya know...Straight up from Whatley, GA....I gotta do it for my city baby, Whatley."

Announcer: "There you go, the University of Georgia and what a steal for Mark Richt. They thought he was going to Clemson but he's going to Georgia. Why Georgia?"

AJ: "Ah man, I mean....that where my...my hometown at. An you know, I know it gonna be some more trouble when I get back home with Clemson an everything and hopefully as time I get back home we settle everything, but you know, just like I hope give out a shot to my city of Whatley, GA."

nice catch georgia

When I heard that guy talk, I changed the channel. It was sad. I felt bad for him. He couldn't even say a complete sentence. Southern education at its finest!

jucie boy b-12 -- those questions must be on the test you took. Interesting you could remeber what they were.

jucie boy b -12 -- hope you passed that test you posted.

Sounds like he just wanted some TV time.

You guys crack me up. As if everyone who plays at Michigan is a Rhodes Scholar.

January 6, 2008  03:34 PM ET

And schools in the north are sooooooooooooooooo much better.

January 6, 2008  03:39 PM ET

Not too long ago, when you consider the small town, urban, hood type of environment I grew up in, I think that in a public forum I would have expressed myself pretty much in the same manner young Mr. Harmon did. I received an opportunity, had the right people around me, applied myself, graduated from college, and completed my Master's degree program at Brown University (yes, that Brown University). Please give the young guy a break and a chance to mature and grow as a person and a man before you make fun of his Intelligence.

A fellow African American Southerner

I thought the South was supposed to be the bigoted, backwards part of the country? Oh wait....that's right...because you go to college up north automatically makes you smarter? Omar Adamo is absolutely right. Quit hating on the SEC. This is an 18 year old kid people, try to remember that.

January 6, 2008  06:06 PM ET

Heheheh, I like how most non-southerners automatically assume that it's the south that made him like that. How about being a real good athlete does not coincide with being the smartest of people? Most athletes are not smart, and most intellectuals are not athletic; that's just the way it is.

Didn't a Michigan football alum just harp on UM for having lowered their standards?

The only places with higher entrance exams and GPA's that are somewhat compeditive in the football department are probably Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest.

As long as he can pass/run block and not get into trouble or injured, I'm a happy camper.

January 6, 2008  06:54 PM ET

ott2424, check your spelling in your first reply thread. You misspelled remember.

You fail. You can't attend any SEC school even though you passed the other three questions. Try UCF or So. Florida, they take illiterates there.

I agree somewhat with Omar. The man just sounded excited and nervous. I do not know how many of you were on national TV at age 18. We expect everyone of our athletes to be composed, brilliant, and articulate. That just is not the case for all members of society. Mark Richt can tell this guy to not talk to reporters or put him in a public speaking class and then he will be fine. He won't be Grant Hill, but as long as he does not talk like Jason Williams (from the Heat), he will be fine. A someone said, I just want to see him block. For you northerners who want to be snippy, OSU great And Katzenmoyer did not have a sparkling IQ or GPA from what I read, but did Buckeye fans care? I doubt it. To be fair, I don't think the Fab 5 were rocket scientists either. Sorry I stole all your thunder Buckeye Nation.

He will do fine at UGA, they once had a course a few years back that had test questions like this:

How many halves are in a college basketball game?
How many points does a team get for a 3 point basket?

Not kidding, it was for a credit hour and I think it was taught by an asst. basketball coach.

What is a UGA diploma worth?

January 6, 2008  09:39 PM ET

A UGA diploma with your MBA is worth a whole lot - ranked 46th nationally which is very good for a state school

I think a better question is 'what kind of a tool is named Herbie?' Thought that was the name of a VW Bug

January 6, 2008  10:53 PM ET

Please what? 7 straight wins against Tech gotten ya down?

January 6, 2008  11:40 PM ET

UGa fans. We get it, you are proud of your bulldogs. But you are getting kind of petty and cheap. Dare I say you seem to have some sort of academic inferiority complex to Tech in much the same way OSU has one with UM? This is not to say Tech and UM are better than UGa and OSU, just an observation.
