08:07 AM ET 02.08 | In a typical season, trade deadline speculation is already underway. This year? Nothing. So when do we start hearing every realistic and unrealistic name in the league getting attached to the Mavericks? If you answered "it won't happen," you have learned well. ... The Mavericks "will not jeopardize our flexibility for this summer," in the words of president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson. He also said Tuesday that while this team hasn't clicked yet, it will get every opportunity to do so. You never say never, as Nelson said. But the smart money is that this is going to be the Mavericks' team you're going to see before and after the March 15 deadline.

No surprise there given all the moves made during the pre-season were done for available FA's this summer.

I think the mavs were pushing time last year. They needed to either sign Chandler and go for one more, or rebuild. If you ask me they pulled the trigger to early and now will have a hard time getting back to the top for awhile. I don't think dwill or Howard will end up there, not unless they want to help grab the walkers out of the trunk.

If any deal is done, it might be to ship Roddy out of here. I think while he still has some value the franchise knows that he cannot run the point here. With D-Will possibly coming here, then why keep Roddy? He can take over a game here and there, but is for the most part reckless and wild. So if you can move Roddy and someone like Cardinal at the deadline for a cheap role player elsewhere and a #1 then why not? I think his time here is over soon.

If they could swing a deal for Howard, I bet the Mavs would change their minds.
