Knox potentially unavailable for 2012

08:01 AM ET 02.09 | In a recurring theme, Chicago again seeks a No. 1 receiver. Considering the Bears' leader in receptions -- running back Matt Forte -- doesn't play the receiver position, it's quite clear that's where the team needs to upgrade. ... [Johnny Knox finished] the 2011 season ranked second in the NFL in yards per catch (19.6 yards), led the team in receiving yards (727) and was tied for second in receptions. But a devastating back injury on Dec. 18 casts doubt on Knox's potential availability for 2012. Having undergone a vertebral fusion procedure, Knox will have to wear a back brace until mid-March, and his timeline for recovery could extend beyond six months, according to multiple sources.

Hopefully Knox makes a complete recovery but the Bears needed to look at upgrading the WR position even before his unfortunate injury.

He may come back in 2013, then, but I doubt that he's ever going to play at a high level again.

Agree 100%. The bears had a bunch of #3 receivers on the roster. Heck, most of the Bear receivers couldn't get on the field in Green Bay or New Orleans. With or without Knox, this still need a #1 and #2 receiver. (And for heavens sake, please keep Devin Hester off the field, on offense.) Thanks to Martz, they don't even have a servicable pass catching tight end, since they trade Greg Olson, so rack that up to another serious need. But good luck to Knox on a speedy, full recovery.

Yeah, it is.
I hope he fully recovers, and I'm not even worried about it in a football sense.

This!
I was never a believer in the Devin Hester WR experiment. Trying to convert him into a #1 receiver was just a Phillips/Angelo/Smith ploy to cultivate WR capabilities on the cheap.

Phil Emery has his work cut out for him, on offense and defense.

Knox may be done. These are the kind of injuries that limit mobility in most people so how is a football guy going to survive?

Bears should trade for Finley. He'd fit right in with all the others on the team that drop passes all day long.
