08:09 AM ET 02.09 | At three years and just over $14 million, Elvis Andrus signed a contract Wednesday that sets up as a win-win for both the Rangers and the player. The Rangers bought out all three of Andrus' arbitration years, eliminating three off-seasons of negotiating and also giving Andrus the peace of mind of having guaranteed money now. ... [The] sides could never agree on a longer deal that would wipe out Andrus' first few free-agent years. That doesn't mean they won't continue to work on that, though. "We have made no bones about the fact that we would like to sign some of our core players to extensions that do extend into free agency, and to be 100 percent clear, Elvis is one of those guys," assistant general manager Thad Levine said.

It seems that one can never get a Boras client to sign away a year of free agency. Rangers did what they could. Glad they are looking at deals like this to keep their money up the middle.
