08:12 AM ET 02.09 | If Ryan Ludwick set out to win over Reds fans, he's likely batting 1.000 after Cincinnati formally announced his signing. "People might find it hard to believe," he said. "But this the most excited I've been in my career." ... On playing in Petco: "Playing in San Diego screwed me up. I'm not using that as an excuse or a crutch, but it turned me into a dead pull hitter. I got away from what I was as a hitter." (Over 160 games in San Diego, Ludwick hit .228/.301/.358). On playing at Great American Ball Park (where he has hit .276/.321/.600 with six home runs and 21 RBI in 105 at-bats): "Great American has one of the fairest right-centers in baseball. It fits my swing perfectly."

Bring the fences in closer fits his swing perfectly

I think Adrian Gonzalez is the only former Padre who had any success hitting at Petco.

Dusty without a toothpick is what screws him up

sure sounds like an excuse. his best years were when he was in a lineup with 'the machine' he's got Votto now so maybe his production will show up again.

maybe a little league's park

February 9, 2012  11:05 AM ET

Not an excuse, a fact. petco is not a hitters park.

Ludwick was never amazing to begin with...which is why StL dealt him to the Padres.

He will be an average hitter...period.

when the hitter its good, there shouldn't be any differences between one stadium to another stadium, why?? because the power the ability, the discipline, and the conssistancy should be there, not only in one stadium but in every stadium the hitter should be able to achieve his goals!!!

Sure, then he could use metal bats.

Better than average! I seem to recall Ludwick being traded away by StL in some "desperation-for-pitcher" deal in 2010. He was a fan favorite, near 300 batter, and pretty decent glove in right field. It was not a fan popular trade. I'd think Jockety [ the GM who signed him in StL originally] also suspects he may be revived leaving San Diego's Petco.

Then ADAPT to the park you are playing in. You do not need to hit HR's to bat .300

Singles, doubles, triples are all hittable in parks that are not "hitter friendly".

Ludwick will rebound in Cincinnati, bat fifth or sixth, and finish at about .265 with 23 homers and 80 RBIs. He will fit in nicely in that park and that lineup, and be a steal for the Reds.

the player refuse to accept responsability, the padres screw him? please first of all, you have to learn how to be a complete hitter a hitter who itsn't looking for somebody else to place your fault rather apply more discipline towards your own skills and learn how to improve your knowledge in the baseball game!!

if petco park itsn't a hitter's park then why gonsalez can hit 30 homeruns every season while he was playing for the padres????
