Beane extension suggests San Jose move

08:12 AM ET 02.09 | The framework is reportedly in place for A's GM Billy Beane to remain with the club through 2019. Such lengthy extensions point to further optimism in the A's upper ranks about the team's chances of getting approval for a new stadium in San Jose. Considering how publicly frustrated Beane has been about the limitations of the Coliseum, both in terms of attracting free agents and in terms of income generated, I cannot imagine him staying with the club that long without a good idea that a new stadium is on the horizon. Of course, there could be plenty of language in any contract that might nullify everything in the event the team does not get approval to move.

The A's deserve something good in their horizon. This is the most beat up team in the majors.

Yes it is but it shouldn't be a problem. Most fans in San Jose aren't interested in money ball...they like a chance at winning so they'll be watching the Giants.

A's granted Giants territorial rights to current Giants owners when the Giants were flirting with Tampa. The reality is that the Giants want to get paid to give up what the A's gave to them. At the end of this story, the A's will be in San Jose and the Giants will have paid down their stadium debt by X number of million dollars. The only thing remaining is determining the value of X.

So let's see if I've got the gist of this article. A long-term extension for Billy Beane is a harbinger of the A's moving to San Jose. Or maybe not. It is appropriate that 'news' like this comes out at this time of the year because, with just a couple of subtle changes, this piece could easily indicate that the A's are moving if Beane comes out of his office and sees his shadow.

Born and raised in San Jose. Grew up an A's/Raiders fan in the 70's as a reaction to my father who was a Giants/Niner fan. Now I live in Denver. You have a problem with that???

Seems to me that if the A's get SJ then the Giants get most of the East Bay...at least Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
