Cavs can't pry Davis from Warriors

There's nothing the Cavs have that would persuade the Golden State Warriors to trade Baron Davis to the Cavs. Davis has a player option this coming off-season, so I'm sure Davis will remain with the Warriors, but if not, the Cavs could make a run for his services.

No im sure they would take Larry Hughes for Davis straight up!

And wjile you are at it, the city of Cleveland probably would throw in Drew Carey, no additional cost.

Let's see..would I want to leave sunny California and all that it has to offer--45 minutes from home and familiar surroundings, to spend 6 months a year digging my Mercedes out of the snow? No thanks; I think Terri Hatcher and I have plans this winter.

the story here is The Cleveland Plain Dealer runs a story every other day about the Cavs making a trade so they can sell more fish wraps.
Cleveland is handcuffed right now,
Donyell Marshall is an overpaid, out of shape waste and Larry Hughes is a china doll who can't stay healthy.
tomorrow we'll be going after Eddy Curry from new york and then we'll go back and talk about Jason Kidd, and then Kobe will throw a tantrum and he'll be coming here... and Tim Duncan always wanted to play with LeBron....and on and on.
just to let you know...if the story was written by anyone at The Cleveland Plain Dealer, you can bet it's just someone wasting their ink and your time.
They want to make the Cavs front office look like they are exploring all these trade options because LeBron is leaving when his current contract is up and everybody here knows it...it's just not a "national" story yet.

If I were the Warriors, I'd tell Cleveland that they better come off big for me to give up Davis. But since the Cavs won't, my phone would go *click* in their face.

January 6, 2008 11:52 AM ET

Oakland loves that Warriors team, and they love Baron Davis. I don't see a trade of this caliber happening because Davis is on my list of "untradeables" along with Steve Nash, Tim Duncan, and LeBron James.

January 6, 2008 01:56 PM ET

Oh, the Cavs have a player that the Warriors would trade Davis for.......he be named LeBron James.

January 6, 2008 02:34 PM ET

o yea thats really going to happen juice boy

January 6, 2008 03:02 PM ET

"davis is a warrior for life..they are 1 big man from a title..elton brand"

Unless that big is Tim Duncan or Kareem in his prime, and maybe even then they're not title bound. Last years run was a fluke. They're not going to sneak up on anyone this year.

January 6, 2008 03:23 PM ET

We (Lakers) have the big-man the Warriors need, Kwame Brown. We'll package him with either of our two young point guards (Farmar or Crittendon) and throw in Sasha too for the Red Baron. Any takers???

January 6, 2008 04:05 PM ET

Haha I hope that's a joke by arejaydub but it's probably not!

January 6, 2008 04:45 PM ET

Baron needs a winning team and that isn't Golden State. And as far as his Benz is concerned We have heated garages in Cleveland

January 6, 2008 05:23 PM ET

i agree with dynamic - i hope you really were joking arejaydub. First of all to quote Bill Walton, "Kwamye Brown couldn't grab a board in a lumberyard." That pretty much sums up his sad career as a former #1 draft choice. In a few years the Warriors will have a solid big in Brandon Wright, but he still needs some polishing.

Golden State is as close to a winner as Cleveland is. They are both perhaps 1 player away. And Cleveland doesn't have anything of value to trade. Who would they give up for Davis--Larry Hughes, Eric Snow, and Ira Newble. Maybe you could throw in Cedric Simmons.

January 6, 2008 07:01 PM ET

I'd take GS over Cleveland this year if it came to a playoff match between them (in other words the Finals) Baron could add a lot to Cleveland, but GS would be back to the losing ways of hmmm the last 10 years or so (minus last years playoff run)

January 6, 2008 08:02 PM ET

The Cavs will get lbj some help cause the east is packing power this year. dch1314's Gallery at Zazzle

uncfelton, don't you know how to recognize a sarcastic remark? Of course Cleveland won't make that deal. Neither would the Warriors accept any other Cleveland player for Davis.

January 6, 2008 10:12 PM ET

I think partypimp is right. The Cleveland Plain Dealer is just trying to sell papers and help keep the Q's seats filled. Danny Ferry over reached a few years ago and panicked when the Cavs had cap room and money. Talk about bad deals. In retrospect a liitle patience would have been prudent, but instead the Cavs shelled out a fotunes for has beens, when all they needed was one talented point guard.

January 6, 2008 10:33 PM ET

I still think Baron Davis doesn't have the greatest trade value. He has been healthy only the last year or so. I would be weary about giving him more than a 2 year deal. But I do think he could help the Cavs win the big one.
