08:18 AM ET 02.10 | University of Georgia president Michael Adams reportedly sees a college football playoff on the near horizon. Adams shared that view with the UGA Athletic Association board executive committee Wednesday at Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall. "My best guess is we're going to end up with either a four- or eight-team playoff by the time we get to '14," Adams said. The board also heard behind closed doors at their winter meeting about negotiations for a contract extension for Bulldogs football coach Mark Richt. "There's some lawyering to be done yet, but we're in 98 percent agreement and the other two percent is just minor details," Adams said after the meeting.

I like the idea of one team hosting the games up to the final.

How many teams will the SEC have in the playoff system my guess it will be at least 5!

Well, duh. 5 SEC and OU...wonder who the other 2 will be? U$C and ND?

IMO the biggest issue with this will be the problem created by initial rankings and timing of losses...just like it is now. But it's still better than the current one. Again, JMO.

Why you giving Oregon a free pass? :-)

Yep...first time a team from a "weaker" conference (Sun Belt, WAC) has only 1-2 losses and wins their conference and is left out....and another school with 1-2 losses and doesn't win their conference gets into the playoffs...be right back here with the same old same old....

Last year Northern Illinois (11-3) and Arkansas State (10-3) didn't even get ranked...and there were a few 4 loss teams ahead of them.

Yeah, or an SEC team will begin the season rated #4 and have two conference losses and still not drop in rankings (because the losses were to other might SEC teams ya know), and leaving out a one loss Pac 12, B1G team, Big 12 or ACC team. <hit will hit the fan again.

I like the idea ... send the four big bowl game winners( Sugar, Rose, Orange and Fiesta\Cotton) to a four game playoff. More teams would be better :]

Uh, Prez Adams needs to check his talking points with Mike Slive before he goes off acting like Gee. Slive says there's lots of stuff to get done before any of this playoff stuff comes to pass - article on SI main CFB page.

As for an 8 team playoff. Never going to happen. It will be a 4 team playoff and they are going to work out the details.

I just hope they give the players some time between games to prepare. They get a month to prepare for their bowl game ... then a week to prepare for the next round?

I would be happy if they played the NC game the Saturday before the Super Bowl and punt the Pro Bowl to the curb!

But ... classes and finals have to be part of the equation too.
