08:21 AM ET 02.10 | Even as he leans hard on 40 years of age, Ray Whitney finds his name blowing in the trade winds. [Whitney] is on the radar of a few contenders and with good reason, the Wizard amazingly leading the Phoenix Coyotes in scoring at 39 years old. An unrestricted free agent July 1, he could be on the move if the Coyotes fall out of the playoff race over the next two weeks. Sources have told ESPN.com that Boston, San Jose and the New York Rangers covet the slick playmaker. The tricky part is that Whitney has a no-move clause that calls for him to list eight teams to which he'd be willing to be traded. A source told ESPN.com on Thursday that that conversation had yet to happen.

How can we be expected to start the weekend without our daily dose of "Irk?" Oh well, guess I'll just have to watch some hockey with a few cold beers and just settle for not being irked...

To be honest, I was expecting a trade today. Last night showed the team simply cannot keep up with the elite in the East.

Right now, I just call him Mama's Boy.

I can see San Jose, but why would Boston or NY want to mess with what is working so well for them?

Don't discount Chiarelli making some kind of move with the way the B's have been playing of late.

he just might have to if their play continues on the path its on now. I just it doenst turn out to be something drastic, but i would be happy with a trade for RW if we didnt give up too much

February 10, 2012  12:01 PM ET

I just hope it doesnt*

The big problem here, people, is that the Coyotes are not sellers. But buyers. Get this in your heads, media people (especially TSN.ca - like Doaner would ever give you rejects a list of teams he'd like to go to, hhahahaah...)! I don't see a major collapse until February 27 - after all, Bryz is gone... - the way they play right now.

He stood pat at the beginning of the season when they got off to a slow start. Every team hits a rough patch. I don't see the B's using that to do anything drastic. As they are now, they have to be considered one of the favorites to come out of the East, slump or no slump.

Chiarelli made some moves late last year that had a direct impact on the B's winning the whole thing. If he thinks that Whitney is available and would be an upgrade with low locker room impact, you can bet he'll pull the trigger. With Horton slow to return from his concussion issues, having another RW would not be the worst idea. I wouldn't mind seeing him send Caron to clear the position and Corvo just because.

I never thought I'd see the day when somebody would be fighting over a coyote!
