08:18 AM ET 02.11 | He'll be here all week, apparently. Sandy Alderson continued to make light of the Mets' money problems on his new Twitter account Friday. "Bought 4 like-new tires at chop shop across from Citi," the Mets GM wrote. "He threw in free wiper fluid. Better than [Zach] Wheeler deal!" Alderson started using Twitter when he found out people thought he was driving down to spring training in Port St. Lucie because of the team's finances and didn't waste any time tweaking them Thursday. "Getting ready for Spring Training-Driving to FL but haven't left yet," Alderson wrote Thursday. "Big fundraiser tonight for gas money. Also exploring PAC contribution."

Maybe that's true, but we all mock the Mets.

They just had two minor league players suspended for fifty games for drug violations. Should save a few bucks there, enough for a complete check up and lube.

Bud Lights Righthand Man!!!

Every move Alderson makes reminds me of going to the corner to buy the old man smokes...every trip includes the phrase "And bring me back my godddam change!"

He's at least 3-4 years away from being able to do anything of consequence, so why have a heart attack or an ulcer now. Just grab ankle for a year or two, and then maybe he can start building a team for real.

the mets still mocking themselves???

February 11, 2012  11:19 AM ET

the mets will remain in a limbo, it not matter what the owners and the GM does with their actuall roster, should the mets play small ball??

February 11, 2012  11:27 AM ET

Funny stuff....let's hope the owners thought so as well.

Most pathetic thing about the Mets, they are selling 10-12 ownership packages, and supposedly one is being purchased by Sterling Equities, the Wilpon's real estate company, and another 4 are being purchased by SNY, their network.

So since the team is in hock for the MLB limit, they are now going throw those other businesses into debt to try and keep the team. My guess is after 2 more years of CitiField being a ghost town from May to Sept, they wind up selling the team, stadium and network as a package. Then after paying off debt, Picard and taxes, Freddie Coupon will be able to take his family out to a nice dinner at Sizzler.

Well thank God they got rid of the Dodgers ownership group, and are hanging onto this first class organization in a city that isn't very important to MLB.

They would consider that, but they apparently cannot afford balls. So they will end up playing with borrowed balls. If Bud Selig were alive today.......

How sad is it that the Mets, playing in New York City, are the laughingstock of baseball?

The A's are going to fight them for that title.

Not sad at all. I enjoy it..........a lot.

February 11, 2012  06:27 PM ET

February 11, 2012  08:04 PM ET

The Mets are gonna be better than everyone thinks......because baseball is full of mediocrity....c'mon the friggin bs Cardinals won the world series for Christ sakes...

February 11, 2012  08:23 PM ET

Nice way of endearing himself to an already dwindling fanbase.

February 11, 2012  09:50 PM ET

The Mets are now a small market team.

The A's are sad. The Mets are a laughingstock because of the payroll.

Like I mentioned above. He has six dollars and 35 cents to spend and the owners expect change. He should be lightening the mood as much as possible...the teams performance the next 2-3 years certainly won't endear them to the fan base. A good attitude and at least a glimmer of hope for the future is all he has to offer at the moment.
