NHL scouting Winnipeg for outdoor game

09:08 AM ET 02.11 | The National Hockey League is doing its homework as to the viability of Winnipeg playing host to a Heritage Classic outdoor game at the new Investors Field. A source has told the Winnipeg Free Press the league has taken the next step in its study by contacting Environment Canada seeking data on weather patterns in Winnipeg for January and February. Now, while that may seem like a given - most Winnipeggers would offer up their own forecast as cold with the chance of more cold - it does indicate how seriously the NHL is considering the Manitoba capital as a future site for a Heritage Classic outdoor game, perhaps in 2014.

I'll save the league some money. There are only two weather patterns in Winnipeg for January-February: Cold as hell! And, colder than hell! Take your pick!

Now .... put that wallet away!

If they are doing research into what the winters are like in Winnipeg, why didn't they do research into the winter weather in these southern cities they gave teams to?

No wonder at all. And .... yep, he is the biggest prick of them all.

I bet Ken Holland took a long shower after that interview. Just sitting next to the guy must make you feel like puking.

Wonder when the realization that the only time they can play an outdoor game in Winnipeg is October or March if they play from November to February they will have 40,000 human Popsicles stuck to the seats at Investors

Glad that everyone still believes Manitoba to be a frozen wasteland...keeps the riff raff out and allows me to enjoy the 100 000 plus lakes and low population density.

As for the city of Winnipeg...perhaps they should have thought about building a place with a roof to allow for year round facility usage (a 33 000 seat field for a lousy on field product and a university team that no one watches either)...but then again they got it wrong by only sticking 15 000 seats in their new, "modern" arena! One where you can only visit with people who are sitting in the same level as yourself. Or concourses so cramped, you know how a spawning salmon feels.

Well if you can name a larger urban grouping of people who rank hockey as their #1 sport, spit it out.

Until then, Center of the Hockey Universe = To***to.

Centre of the Hockey Fan Universe?

Possibly.... but that's not what he said.
