KU's Talib bolting to NFL

Kansas cornerback Aqib Talib has decided to forgo his final year of eligibility and declare for the NFL draft, Talib's brother, Yaqub, told The Star on Sunday night.

"Aqib is going to go this year," Yaqub Talib said. "I just think, getting through this season healthy, and just having that big game (in the Orange Bowl), that was a big factor. It was hard to come back when you have a game like that and you boost up your stock a little bit."

Yaqub said that Aqib received a second-round grade from the NFL Draft Advisory Board.

At Best this is a quick decision following the bowl game. In spite of his talent, he showed some maturity issues when he drew the unsportmanlike conduct penalty on the interception score. He is mostly "all aoout me."
We hope this isn't a mistake.

I'm all for juniors bolting for the money but no way is this kid ready. Big mistake.

He's a good enough corner. If the Draft Advisory Board says he's a second rounder then that's good enough. Like I said about Rice and Smith: Get Your Dollars.

go get it, everyone knows if that was them, they would go.....

Truth, I just love it when you get all philosophical and stuff.

It makes me want to put in a bite of Copenhagen and reflect.

you're my boy blue!!!!!!!!!!!!

January 7, 2008  11:05 AM ET

He's good enough and has nothing else to prove, he's not going to move up into the 1st round if he stays and has a great year...

Just to pinch between ya cheek n' gum!

January 7, 2008  01:14 PM ET

exactly, he's going to have his best draft grade this year, he can almost only hurt his stock by coming back. i think that's the right call to be honest

I think he will end up as a punt returner in the NFL and nothing else. The only good passing team he played against all year was Missouri and the Jayhwks got lit up until the Tigers started playing not to lose. The shedule for Kansas is harder next year and leaving early is probably smart. He is a good corner but not as special as some others in the country.

January 7, 2008  02:21 PM ET

go get yours young man....you know you'd go too..what are the odds ku comes back with another season like this one?????

January 7, 2008  02:36 PM ET

He should get his degree so he has something to go on after he's too old to play and has blown his millions.

January 7, 2008  03:14 PM ET

Like a degree is really going to help anyone that blows millions.....

January 7, 2008  04:48 PM ET

Good point.

i think he is a really good corner back but im not sure if he will get picked over malcome jenkins, dajuan tribble and a few others. If he stays another year he will definately go in the top 15....

Get paid, home slice. your stock will never be higher as KU will not be able to repeat the miracle season they had this year. Stay in school? With your million dollar contract, you can take night courses to finish degree.

Right.
