08:29 AM ET 02.12 | The youngest Yankees are spread over the four fields at the team's minor league complex for pre-spring training workouts. Derek Jeter, the Yankees' oldest position player, is here, too, just like every other early February for the past 20 years. Position players officially report Feb. 25, but Jeter doesn't have time to waste. His baseball clock has started.

There is no denying the mans work ethic. He took what natural talent he had and took it as far as it could go.

Then hopefully his renewed diligence will award him with a few more extra base hits this year.

Great ballplayer and great leader, but Father Time is catching up. This could be the last season at SS for Jeter.

Derek should be there early. He lives right there in the off-season, he's not married and doesn't have any kids to leave.

Yeah, I guess you could look at it that way. Maybe he just had a bad winter with the ladies. Getting older may be affecting more than his game on the field.

I believe you're missing the point considering what he is being paid vs. his actual production level. The two do not match up very well

Who cares what he is being paid? Sounds like you're the idiot. Of course the Yankees care that they are being fleeced by his current contract. Just because they are the Yankees doesn't mean they don't want an equal return on their investment, which they will not be getting. Easy for you to talk when you're not paying the bills, isn't it?

A few years ago I would have agreed with you, but the way the Yankees along with the Red Sox are pinching pennies to avoid luxury tax implications, Dereks contract does matter. With his $15M a year payday, it definitely affects the moves Cashman can make to try and improve other areas of the team.
