08:29 AM ET 02.12 | The youngest Yankees are spread over the four fields at the team's minor league complex for pre-spring training workouts. Derek Jeter, the Yankees' oldest position player, is here, too, just like every other early February for the past 20 years. Position players officially report Feb. 25, but Jeter doesn't have time to waste. His baseball clock has started.

There is no denying the mans work ethic. He took what natural talent he had and took it as far as it could go.

nothing we fans could want more out of the guys we root for than when they actually give a shiate and act as a professional

Then hopefully his renewed diligence will award him with a few more extra base hits this year.

....jeter is a good leader....but father time says he is no longer a good ballplayer....should look into coaching....

Great ballplayer and great leader, but Father Time is catching up. This could be the last season at SS for Jeter.

Derek should be there early. He lives right there in the off-season, he's not married and doesn't have any kids to leave.

hmmmmm......
he's a short stop and the steroid era is over (supposedly)
name me 5 ss who had SIGNIFICANTLY better offensive years

that makes no sense.....if he has no wife and kids to leave-
then why would he want to get there early?
:)

Yeah, I guess you could look at it that way. Maybe he just had a bad winter with the ladies. Getting older may be affecting more than his game on the field.

I believe you're missing the point considering what he is being paid vs. his actual production level. The two do not match up very well

and I think you are simply just trying to be a smart arse
who cares what he is being paid....
its baseball- there is no cap and he is on the richest team in the world
he is certainly overpaid, but how does that impact anything?
you are looking at his contract in a vacuum
NY is not KC or Pittsburgh
\
so get to the real point
name me 5 SS in the game that had significantly better offensive years

cabrera, reyes, tulo, hardy had significantly better years
guys like castro, rollins, ramirez had basically similar years
so jeter at worst is a top 10 ss in the league still at his advanced age
he is being paid for his intangibles and for his career.
if he was god awful- I'd agree with you- but he plays a steady ss and he is productive and how do you put a price on a proven clutch guy

Who cares what he is being paid? Sounds like you're the idiot. Of course the Yankees care that they are being fleeced by his current contract. Just because they are the Yankees doesn't mean they don't want an equal return on their investment, which they will not be getting. Easy for you to talk when you're not paying the bills, isn't it?

buddy read what you just wrote-
how are they being 'fleeced' ?
they made the playoffs. Jeter had a great 2nd half
wtf do you want?
AJ is fleecing the team- he did squat all year
and I AM paying the bills as I watch the YES network and go to some games
and I am HAPPY to pay the bills since they put a quality product on the field
and for return on investment- you don't think that jeter merchandise makes any $? you don't think that fans come out to see him in NY and in other towns?
and I don't' even give a shiate about that ....its about winning and making the playoffs-
to which jeter has and continues to help NY do
Is he the best SS in the game? no
Does he hlep NY win? HELL YES
You are making yourself sound like you just started watching baseball 10 minutes ago

A few years ago I would have agreed with you, but the way the Yankees along with the Red Sox are pinching pennies to avoid luxury tax implications, Dereks contract does matter. With his $15M a year payday, it definitely affects the moves Cashman can make to try and improve other areas of the team.
