09:44 AM ET 02.12 | Nicklas Backstrom remains sidelined indefinitely by a concussion, unable to play or even skate for more than five minutes over the past month. His plight is not atypical of players who have suffered head injuries this season, and his return will come only after he meets protocols established by the league. He hasn???t skated for more than five minutes since Jan. 6 and there remains no indication of when the center will return.

They could sure use him today. They're in tough against the Rags and need all the points they can get in their 8th place battle.

I knew he was concussed, but I didn't no how hard a time he was having with it. I thought things like that only happened to Sid. Maybe they need to check for soft tissue damage in his spine too.

If I had to deal with the characters this guy's had to deal with, my head would hurt too.

Tough for the Caps to have any success without this guy in their lineup...hard to replace a point per game player.

Everybody does. It certainly isn't any fun. It's weird how, in some cases, it can go away in a matter of weeks yet linger for months with others. Hopes he and all the others make it back soon.

Is that Sid's problem? A spine problem?

Last week they said that there was no concussion, but there was damage to the soft tissue in his neck vertebrae. He's getting treatment for it and they are hoping for a full recovery.

....or maybe guys that are playing, but not up to their contract standards! That would be a long list this year.
