Bill Belichick is nothing if not opportunistic, and he knows that having one of the finest defensive talents potentially come free like this is a once-a-decade kind of thing he can't afford to pass up. All the signs are there: The Patriots are in great shape, in terms of salary cap, and they have a defense that made strides down the stretch (16.3 points per game allowed in the postseason) but need a jolt of talent up front. The Patriots came within a few minutes of winning a Super Bowl, and they did so with only a few blue-chip players on defense. ... Williams would be Belichick's Richard Seymour, part two.

They need a fast wideout, too. Deion Branch is getting old, and was almost invisible this year. The Ocho Experiment didn't work out, and Tiquan "big hair" Underwood was released.
The Pats have 4 picks in the first 2 rounds. Watch at least one of them go for a WR.

Williams would be a great addition to that Patriots pass rush and New England certainly has the money to pay him. Williams, meanwhile, would benefit from some Belichick coaching. But if the Patriots want to develop a deep passing game, it's not just a speedy wide-out they'll need. Tom Brady just can't throw the deep ball accurately any more. A vertical passing game will need a new quarterback.

Williams is unhappy with his new role as linebacker/pass rusher and I think if he can back on the D line he'd make the jump to the Patriots.

As a die hard Patriots fan, and also a realistic one, we need a great deal of help on the defensive side of the ball. Williams is a play maker, a real difference maker, and the idea of him lining up in Patriots colors has me half filled up I'm not gonna lie.
