Power struggle unfolding in Pittsburgh

08:00 AM ET 02.13 | Sit back and enjoy the show, Steelers fans. The Steelers' clumsy coordinator shuffle clearly was aimed at making one man a lot less comfortable. The quarterback. That is what makes this drama so compelling. How does Ben Roethlisberger respond to getting slapped around a little? The organization that granted him nearly unlimited power to play as he saw fit -- heck, to play when he saw fit after his ankle injury -- is trying to reclaim a portion of said power. And there is no delicate way to do that. So get your popcorn ready. It's either going to work to spectacular results or blow up in their faces. Applaud the high-risk, high-reward philosophy that has often served the Steelers well. Question their methods. Enjoy the cabaret.

He responds to getting slapped around like his girls respond to getting slapped around: they go media.

Love him or hate him, you can't deny that Big Ben has been one of the top NFL quarterbacks over the past decade. Smart teams don't mess with what works, and Pittsburgh is a smart team.
I can't say the samre for the Tribune-Review's reporters, though.

I don't love his act, molesting drunken college co-eds in GA isn't cool lil ben. Hoping the Steelers will fall off the radar and America's Team will sign Peyton to "coach" up Romo.

Ben has been to 3 sbs and they won 2. What they need to do is protect the dude so he doesn't get hit so often. The reporter for the trib (my old hometown paper) is a putz. The team loves Ben because he is old-school and will sacrifice himself and do whatever it takes to win.

Another non story by a jerk reporter for the local paper, there is not a "power struggle", nor will there be one in Pittsburgh.

Problem is that no matter how much time the Oline gives him he's always going to be looking for more, always pushing the envelope. I agree that he needs a line who can all stay healthy for a full season but at the end of the day the only real way to protect Ben is to have a better and more dominant running game. So I keep wondering why Todd Haley? I mean he's not exactly Mr Ground&Pound, is he?

The lurch wins games, I can't deny that. But these changes and struggles are what test teams and players.

No, I don't think they ever have a throw-away year. On the contrary, they have a number of veterans who are not getting any younger, but they're still above-average players. That says they should make an extra push to get deeper in the playoffs while they've still got this talent.

Life is a cabaret, old chum, come to the cabaret ("live entertainment"). It's show time. That's what's taking place in Pittsburgh. I would drink carbernet to that, however.
